She recently postponed several concert dates due to an “unexpected medical emergency.” The news was first announced by her team. As of now, fans are waiting for an update on Rosanne’s health, and amid this, her interview where she spoke about her dad, Johnny Cash’s affair, has resurfaced.
During an interview with PEOPLE, Rosanne Cash opened up about the legacy of her dad, Johnny Cash, and how she found her own voice being the daughter of such an iconic singer. Rosanne recalled that her childhood was pretty chaotic, although she realized from a very young age that her dad was an artist whose mind worked differently. And while she understood, Rosanne admitted hesitantly that it scared her mother.
According to the singer-songwriter, Johnny Cash wrote his hit I Walk the Line about how her mother, Vivian Liberto, had the constant fear that he would eventually step out of their marriage. Rosanne said, “He wrote, ‘I’m gonna stay true.’ Of course that wasn't true.” She further claimed that even though Johnny was “the sweetest dad,” their household faced many difficult periods with her father, especially due to his addiction.
Johnny’s addiction reportedly began as a way for him to cope with the exhaustion that came with his life on the road. Eventually, Johnny began a romantic relationship with June Carter, who was a part of his touring cast. Suspecting that he was having an affair, Rosanne’s mom filed for divorce in 1966. Two years after this, Johnny got clean and tied the knot with June Carter.
Despite how Johnny and June’s relationship began, Rosanne surprisingly had no resentment toward her new stepmom. However, she said that the affair was indeed painful for her mother. In her words:
"It seemed inevitable, though it was so painful for my mom. I had two really good examples from women in my life. My mom gave me this powerful sense of discipline, family, mothering, and detail orientation. And June gave me this sense of expansiveness and how to live life as a performer."
It is worth mentioning that apart from Rosanne, Johnny also had daughters, Kathy, Cindy, and Tara, with his first wife. After his marriage to June Carter, the duo had a son named John. Johnny and June remained married from 1968 to May 2003, when June passed away, ending their 35-year-marriage.
Rosanne Cash's team took to Instagram on September 7, 2026, to announce that a trio of concert dates has been postponed due to an “unexpected medical emergency.” While the news left fans worried, they did not provide any specifics about the singer's health scare. Their statement read:
“Rosanne Cash must postpone her performances due to an unexpected medical emergency. She is recovering under her doctors’ supervision, who have recommended a temporary restriction on travel and performing. The restriction is impacting her upcoming Wyoming and Montana shows. Rosanne deeply regrets the cancellation and looks forward to rescheduling appearances.”
Concerned fans soon took to the post’s comments section to fill it with wishes for a speedy recovery for Rosanne. For those unaware, Rosanne had been touring across the country with musician John Leventhal. The tour that began in August 2026 is scheduled to wrap up next year in January 2027.
