According to reports, the guitarist passed away on March 13, 2026 (ET). The band's statement addressed Phil's passing following a major operation. The team recalled how loving Phil was and was quoted as saying:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Philip Anthony Campbell, who passed away peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation. Phil was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a proud and loving grandfather, known affectionately as 'Bampi'. He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be missed immensely. His legacy, music and the memories he created with so many will live on forever."

Mikkey Dee, who joined Motorhead in 1992 and remained a part of the band until Lemmy's death, paid tribute to his longtime bandmate, Phil Campbell, on social media Saturday. He revealed that Phil was a funny person and the best rock guitarist. Mikkey recalled how they wrote 12 studio albums together and was quoted as saying:

"He was the funniest guy I have ever known and the best rock guitar player I have ever played with. His vibe and feel for rock music were outstanding. We wrote 12 studio albums together, and he never stopped surprising me with his extreme talent. Most of all, I will miss hanging out with the nicest guy you could ever meet."

Phil Campbell passed away due to a major complication from an operation. The guitarist's band, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, shared a post on social media about Phil being in intensive care during his last hours. For the unversed, it was in February 2026 when the Bastard Sons cancelled their Australian tour "due to medical advice". They added, "We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this is likely to cause our fans, but Phil’s health will always be our number one priority."

Phill Campbell was born in Pontypridd on May 7, 1961. The musician found his love for guitar at the young age of 10. He was inspired by Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. At the age of 12, Phil met Lemmy after a Hawkwind gig and asked him for an autograph. In 1979, Phil formed the heavy metal band, Persian Risk and played in it until 1984, when he joined Motorhead. The band stayed together until 2015, with Mikkey Dee announcing its disbandment on December 28, following Lemmy's death. In 2016, Phil entered the studio and worked on his solo career, releasing his first solo album, Old Lions Still Roar, in October 2019.
