In a recent conversation, Parvathy Thiruvothu recalled a horrific experience of eve-teasing that she encountered as a child.
Parvathy Thiruvothu, the Malayalam actress, is currently making headlines after she revealed how she encountered eve-teasing when she was a child. Born in Calicut, Parvathy began her acting career with the film, Out of Syllabus in 2006. She rose to fame with the film, Notebook. With the 2015 film, Ennu Ninte Moideen, she received widespread acclaim. She has predominantly worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films and is widely known for her versatility. In a recent interview, Parvathy recalled a horrific incident related to her childhood.
In the latest episode of The Male Feminist, Parvathy Thiruvothu opened up about her horrific experience when she was a child. She mentioned being a woman, she had to face harassment from a few men who took undue advantages. She shared that once she was returning home with her dad after seeing her mom off, a male stranger came out of nowhere and hit her chest. Recalling the traumatic incident, Parvathy said:
"We are born, and then we are assaulted. Auto mein ghus rahe ho, pinch kar diya. Railway station me mummy ko chhor ke waapas dad ke saath chal rahi thi kisi ne chest pe maar ke chala gaya. It was not even like touching, it was like thap! I was a child at that time and I remember being in pain."
During the same conversation, Parvathy revealed how her mom used to guide her to be safe. She explained the harsh reality that a mother needed to teach a child to be safe. She mentioned that the traumatic experiences in childhood had made a bad impact on her body. She was quoted as saying:
"My mom used to teach me how to walk on the streets. Don't window shop. Look at men's hands. Imagine a situation in which a mother has to teach this to her child. Also flashing! The number of times I have turned around and seen a guy with his mundu up… showing his thing. I had no idea what was happening at that time. It is only much later when you go back and see that our bodies have been impacted by these experiences."
In 2018, at the Jio MAMI 20th Mumbai Film Festival, Parvathy opened up about her traumatic past when she was assaulted. The Malayalam actress mentioned that she was three or four years old when the horrific incident took place. She highlighted how she struggled to overcome the childhood trauma. She added that it took her 17 years to realise what really happened to her in the past. She was quoted as saying:
"It happened to me when I was very young. It took me 17 years to realise it did happen to me. I was three or four years old. I didn't ask for it. But I was assaulted. And then to speak about it, it took me another 12 years."
According to a report by Starsunfolded, in 2016, Parvathy attended a function at St. Theresa’s College, Ernakulam, where she revealed that she had been a victim of child ab***, and stalking. She mentioned that she had been harassed by online predators and stalkers. In fact, when Parvathy was struggling as an actress, she was asked for s**ual favours by the insiders of the Malayalam film industry. She made her debut as a lead actress in the Kannada film, Milana. She has appeared in many films, including Bangalore Days, Charlie, Take Off, Koode, Uyare, Virus, Maryan and many more.
