Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleParis Hilton is one of the most loved socialites of the glamour world. The businesswoman has been involved in many charitable and social causes. Paris is currently leading the headlines after Utah revoked the license of a boarding school where the socialite said she was abused as a teenager. The Provo Canyon School is a private, for-profit residential treatment centre for children and teenagers – often nicknamed as being for "troubled teens."
Before Paris attained global fame, she was a rebellious teen who lived in New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel. She lived in the hotel with her parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, and younger siblings Nicky, Barron, and Conrad.
During her stay in the hotel, Paris would sneak out and go to clubs. Her parents often punished her by taking her cell phone, which made her even more rebellious. After growing tired of her ways, Paris was sent to Provo Canyon School in Utah. She spent 11 months in the boarding school, and those were the most traumatising moments of her life.
Studies were never the focus of the school, instead, she faced constant humiliation and yelling. The staff bullied Paris by abusing her, hitting and strangling her. In her documentary, Paris has spoken at length about the trauma she faced. She narrated the ordeal by stating that kids were forced into solitary confinement naked, made to take mystery pills, and subjected to beatings.
Speaking to The New York Times, Paris claimed she was forced to get cervical exams when she was 16 years old while at Provo Canyon School. Recalling the scary period, Paris revealed that girls were taken into a room in the wee hours, and the staff would perform a medical exam without a doctor. In her words:
“Sleep-deprived & heavily medicated, I didn't understand what was happening. I was forced to lie on a padded table, spread my legs & submit to cervical exams. I cried while they held me down & said, 'No!' They just said, 'Shut up. Be quiet. Stop struggling, or you'll go to Obs.'"
During her 11-month stay in the reform, Paris faced numerous traumatising issues. She revealed that her childhood was stolen from her and she was violated multiple times. Hilton also revealed that the abuse continued for so long because staff members were monitoring and restricting their phone conversations with parents.
She couldn’t report the abuse to anyone because the reform doesn't just censor communication with family, but also with the outside world, so there was no way to seek help. Narrating the same, she said:
“The staff member just hung up the phone, screamed at me, told me, 'You have your phone privilege taken away. We're going to tell your parents that you are manipulating them, that you're lying.”
Since Paris Hilton released her documentary, other celebrities, such as Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris Jackson, and tattoo artist Kat Von D, have spoken about their experiences at Provo or similar places. The Provo institution has changed ownership since Paris Hilton was there, and the current owners say they cannot comment on what happened before their tenure.
