Despite this, his recent revelation about how ‘homeless’ he is has left fans deeply worried for him. It seems that Nicolas is going through some hard times after his Malibu mansion nearly fell into a massive sinkhole in September 2026.

With Nicolas in the spotlight, the focus has also shifted to his personal life. While he is happily married to Riko Shibata, who is 31 years his junior, he had a short-lived marriage to Erika Koike before her.

Nicolas Cage and Erika Koike first sparked romance rumors back in April 2018 when they were spotted together in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After dating for roughly a year, the pair tied the knot on March 23, 2019. They had reportedly applied for a marriage licence on the same day.

However, Nicolas and Erika’s marriage only lasted four days, leaving fans completely shocked. The actor filed for annulment and explained in court documents that he and Erika, a makeup artist, had been drinking to the point of intoxication in Las Vegas before they got hitched.

Nicolas alleged that he “lacked understanding” of what was happening. The papers stated, "Prior to obtaining a marriage license and participating in a marriage ceremony, [they] were both drinking to the point of intoxication."

It further claimed that “as a result of his intoxication, when (Koike) suggested to (Cage) that they should marry, (he) reacted on impulse and without the ability to recognize or understand the full impact of his actions.” At the time, Nicolas Cage also believed that his then-wife did not disclose the full nature and extent of her relationship with another person, in addition to the full nature and extent of her criminal history.

According to reports, just hours after Nicolas and Erika tied the knot after a night of drinking, the pair were spotted arguing at a Las Vegas hotel called Bellagio. Several photos captured Erika yelling at the National Treasure actor, with witness accounts confirming the same.

Erika agreed to a divorce from Nicolas but did not agree that the impulsiveness of the decision qualified for an annulment. This led her to think that she is eligible for spousal support. Erika claimed that she lost a lot of career opportunities during her relationship with Nicolas owing to her damaged reputation.

Interestingly, Erika revealed that the actor had asked her to start again “in the right way” just 12 days after filing for the annulment. She claimed that it proved that her and Nicolas’ relationship was legit.

Meanwhile, speaking on his four-day marriage to Erika, Nicolas claimed that it had left him feeling upset. In an interview with The New York Times Magazine, he said:

“There was a recent breakup. I don’t really want to talk about it. I was pretty upset about that and the way things happened.”

Nicolas Cage and Erika Koike’s divorce was granted on May 31, 2019, according to Clark County Nevada online records. Notably, this was the fourth marriage for the actor. Before Erika, Nicolas was married to actress Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001, Lisa Marie Presley from 2002 to 2004, and Alice Kim from 2004 to 2016.
