She once sparked affair rumors with a man, 18 years her junior, Alex Emmanuel Rodriguez, nicknamed A-Rod. The MLB player connected with the pop star after her manager, Guy Oseary also began managing the New York Yankees slugger in December 2007. Being under the same manager gave the duo an opportunity to get to know each other better.
Madonna even introduced A-Rod to her tight-knit inner circle. As a result, he became interested in Kabbalah, a Jewish form of mysticism that Madonna practiced. By July 2008, the duo's closeness sparked a dating rumor. What made it worse was that both were married at the time. She was married to Guy Ritchie, while A-Rod's then-wife, Cynthia Scurtis had just given birth to their second daughter, Ella three months earlier, in April 2008.
Cynthia was reportedly deeply hurt by the speculated affair between A-Rod and Madonna. Shortly after his and Madonna's alleged affair got publicized, Cynthia filed for divorce, and it was the end of their six-year marriage.

In her filing, Cynthia said that her marriage was "irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct." She later mentioned, "I knew that he had his own demons and I was hoping he would get help." Many reports claimed that the former couple had their fair share of issues and the alleged affair with Madonna was the "final straw" that broke their marriage. In her divorce filing, she wrote:
"Alex has emotionally abandoned his wife and children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him."
Cynthia clarified that there was no physical infidelity involved, but she sensed emotional cheating, which led her to part ways with A-Rod. While he didn't directly admit to infidelity, in the docuseries, he stated that he was lacking in many spheres when it comes to his personal life. The baseball player stated that he "could have been a better husband" who was "more present" and "more loyal." In his words:
"In hindsight, I could have been a better husband. I could have been more present. I could have been more loyal. I could have been more sympathetic, empathetic, all of it. You name it."
