As per a report in a trade magazine, Film Information, the famous face of the 1970s and 1980s, Madhu Malhotra, passed away in Mumbai on March 13, 2026. The 71-year-old veteran actress's cause of death has not been disclosed. However, reports claimed that she had been suffering from age-related ailments and was unwell for a while. No sooner did the reports about her passing surface, than her fans and industry friends poured tribute to the actress. Actor Subhash Ghai also paid tribute to the late actress. The song Laambi Judai from the movie Hero became a much-loved song of that time, and it brought Madhu Malhotra into the spotlight. With her passing, the industry has been left with an utter void.
When it was the golden time of Bollywood, i.e. in the 1970s and 1980s. Madhu Malhotra became a famous face, and she had contributed to more than 100 movies in her lifetime, be it in supporting or pivotal roles. Madhu was seen in Subhash Ghai's movies frequently. The movies that featured Madhu were Vishwanath, Karz, and Vidhaata. She was also seen in horror films of Mohan Bhakri, named Khooni Murda and Roohani Taqat. She was also famous for her role in Satte-Pe-Satta, wherein she was seen alongside Paintal.
In this movie, Madhu played the role of the girlfriend of the character, 'Budh', and her skill in the song, Mausam Mastana, became one of the attention-grabbing performances. In this song, she was seen in the role of a joyous lady, wearing a beach hat. Her beauty and skills instantly became fan favourites, and this eventually led her to solidify her name in the entertainment industry. Director Anil Sharma once praised Madhu and said that she had a role in the movie, Shradhanjali, wherein she had a small role; however, as per the former, the latter actress was extremely professional. Madhu mainly played the roles of character artists in the films, and her roles were mainly supportive or minor ones. However, despite this, she managed to carve a special place in the hearts of her fans, who are now mourning her death.
While Madhu Malhotra was known for her on-screen portrayals, her personal life also grabbed the attention. For the unversed, she was married to Mahesh Anand. He was one of the most well-known actors in the industry, whose roles as antagonists led him to establish himself as one of the biggest stars of his time. Nothing much about their relationship is available in the public domain. As per several reports, Madhu and Mahesh got married either in early 1990 or late 1990. It's not known whether it was a love marriage or not, but it was a short-lived one, as the duo ended up divorcing each other.
Mahesh Anand was one of the most famous actors, who had a credit of over 300 films during his time. Not only through his professional life, but Madhu's husband, Mahesh, also grabbed the attention with his personal life. Mahesh had been married not once, but five times. Yes! Madhu was his third wife, and before her, he was married to Reena Roy’s sister, Barkha Roy, who was his first wife.
Seemingly, the marriage ended soon, and following this, Mahesh went on to get married to Miss India International, Erica Maria D’Souz, with whom he also had a son. Before these three marriages, Mahesh had already dated 12 women. After his marriage to Erica ended, Madhu came into his life, but that bonding was short-lived as well. Following this, he again got married to actress, Usha Bachani for the fourth time, and it also ended. Mahesh gave love another chance when he married for the fifth time to a Russian woman named Lana. It was known that while Mahesh was married 5 times, he died alone and penniless.
We wish Madhu's family and friends strength to deal with this tough time. While she has passed away living a void, her work of art will forever be shinning in the memories of her fans and in the blocks of the entertainment industry!
