Lionel Richie Hospitalized, 77-Year-Old's Health Scare Comes Days After He Was Discharged From ICU

Grammy-winning singer, Lionel Richie has been hospitalized once again after he was discharged from the hospital and was reportedly 'doing great.'

Lionel Richie had recently sparked health concerns after he was hospitalized following his St. Louis concert on August 29, 2026. At the time, it was revealed that the 77-year-old singer-songwriter had been admitted to the ICU after he faced health issues at the end of his show. While it was later reported that  Lionel was in better condition, it seems that he is once again back in the hospital for another heart issue.

Just when fans thought that Lionel Richie was back in good health, the singer was hospitalized again after suffering another heart issue. According to reports, this led him and Earth, Wind & Fire to cancel three of their upcoming shows for the Sing a Song All Night Long tour. The shows were initially scheduled for September 26, 2026, in San Francisco; September 30, 2026, in Chicago; and October 2, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio.

Sources with direct knowledge of the situation told TMZ that, in the hospital, Lionel is currently receiving treatment for atrial fibrillation, that is, an irregular heartbeat. Doctors are using AFib ablation to treat Lionel Richie. For those worried, it is not considered a major procedure.

With the help of this minimally invasive treatment, tiny scars will be created in the heart to block faulty electrical signals. This will also lead the heart to get back to its normal rhythm.

Why was Lionel Richie admitted to the ICU after his St. Louis show?

Lionel Richie's St. Louis concert took place at The Muny in Forest Park on August 29, 2026. Once the Grammy-winning musician realised that there might be something wrong with his health, Lionel admitted himself to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a local hospital for an immediate checkup.

Witnesses who were present at the concert said that Lionel Richie appeared to be “struggling” towards the end of the show. They further stated that the singer asked his team for a chair so he could sit while performing his final song, All Night Long. After a three-day stay at the hospital, Lionel was back home in Los Angeles and was reported to be “doing great.”

Lionel Richie has clearly been struggling with his health as he cut a June 2026 performance short when he fell ill onstage. At the time, the singer admitted to the crowd that he was feeling dizzy and joked that he had never performed Dancing on the Ceiling while seated. He said, “When you're feeling dizzy, sit your ass down.” Owing to his health, Lionel had postponed two shows to “rest and return to full health.” Lionel also jokingly told the crowd:

“Had you worried there for a minute, huh? You have no idea what I have been through in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends tell me their advice on what I should be doing.”

In July 2026, Lionel Richie insisted that he was “doing well.” While thanking his fans for all their support, he said in an Instagram post:

“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you. Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together. See you in Toronto... let’s party all night long!”

Days ahead of his second hospitalization, Lionel Richie was seen attending a dinner party at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills on September 19, 2026. Lionel was accompanied by his girlfriend, Lisa Parigi. In paparazzi photos, Lionel could be seen wearing a dark outfit and white sneakers. He even smiled and gave everyone a thumbs-up.
