At present, John is at the centre of discussion as Tom Clancy’s new Jack Ryan novel, The Coldest War, is slated to be released this month, in November 2026. While no new series or movies featuring John Krasinski have been officially announced, fans are still holding out hope to see him return as the titular character.
With John in the spotlight, the focus has also shifted to his personal life. John has been happily married to Emily Blunt since 2010. But there was a time when he believed that he'd “never end up with her.”
John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are one of the most adorable couples in Hollywood. They share a loving relationship which is nothing short of awe-inspiring. According to reports, they met for the first time through a mutual friend during a night out in Los Angeles in November 2008. Years later, during her 2018 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Emily recounted their encounter.
Emily said that she was sitting with her mutual friend, Gary, at a restaurant. That is when Gary spotted John sitting with actor Justin Theroux. She recalled:
"It's kind of a sad, lame story. I was in a restaurant, and he was in the restaurant. I was sitting with a mutual friend. And my friend Gray goes, ‘Oh my god, that's my friend John.' And that was it. He was sitting with our friend Justin Theroux, and he abandoned Justin and came over to us. He just stood there and made me laugh."
John has openly admitted that he was a big fan of Emily Blunt when they first met. This is evident in the fact that John has watched her movie The Devil Wears Prada over 70 times. However, at the time, Emily had no idea who he was. John claimed that he was incredibly nervous when he met his now-wife. While speaking on Ellen, he said:
“I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ As I shook her hand, I went, ‘I like you.'”
According to John, he was initially under the impression that Emily was way too good for him. And even though he knew that he was going to fall in love with her, he believed from the very beginning that the actress was “way out of his league.” His thinking eventually impacted his first date with Emily.
Most people usually picture roses or candlelit dinners when they think of a date night. But for John Krasinski, he thought a shooting range would be the perfect spot for his first date outside with Emily. He confessed that since he was sure he would never end up with her, he purposefully tried to sabotage their date. He believed that in this way, he wouldn't have to feel bad later. During a conversation with Conan O’Brien, John said:
“On our first date, I decided, ‘I’m gonna really hit the gas and bring her to a gun range. I think that I was so sure that I would never end up with her … that I was like, ‘You know what, I’m gonna blow it right away and then that way you don’t feel bad.’”
Fortunately for John, despite his insecurities about whether he was worthy of Emily Blunt or not, the actress couldn't help but fall in love with him. She claimed that after their first meeting, she “knew right away” that they were meant to be together.
