Jack White's wife, Olivia Jean, has filed for divorce from her husband of four years, reported TMZ. The report states that Jean has cited that he is guilty of "inappropriate marital conduct". According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Jean filed for divorce from the White Stripes singer on June 3, 2026 (ET). The estranged couple tied the knot in December 2022 and said the split date was the date of her filing.
While Olivia Jean cited that her husband, Jack White, was guilty of marital misconduct, she didn't go into the details of what happened. However, reports have alleged that in Tennessee, "inappropriate marital conduct" is a standard statutory term used in divorce pleadings. A part of the filing could be read as:
"Wife would show that Husband is guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which makes further cohabitation unsafe and improper."
Jack White's divorce from Olivia Jean would mark his third divorce. The singer was previously married to his bandmate, Meg White, and later to model, Karen Elson. Now, with the divorce filing, fans have grown curious about the circumstances under which Jean filed for divorce. While the details are yet to be disclosed, in her filing, Olivia said she is dependent on his income for bills and needs him to cough up support and put her on his life insurance policy, revealed a TMZ report.
According to US Legal, "inappropriate marital conduct" refers to behaviour or actions by one spouse that make living together unreasonable for the couple. The conduct covers a range of actions that harm the marriage and have led to the breakdown of safety and trust therein. The site further states that the allegations of "inappropriate marital conduct" are considered by the court "when determining grounds for divorce, which can affect the division of assets, alimony, and custody arrangements".
It is a vast umbrella term that includes infidelity, abuse of all sorts, substance abuse, sexual misconduct, and felony convictions, according to Mandy Hancock Law. It is a "fault-based" ground for divorce and is often cited when couples cannot agree on the terms of their divorce, and the other party is trying to prove that the other caused the marriage to end.
Jack White and Olivia Jean were last seen together in NYC in April 2026 (ET). The couple has a vast age gap of 14 years, with White born on July 9, 1975, and Jean on February 23, 1990. The couple tied the knot in an impromptu wedding on stage. For the unversed, White proposed to Jean during a duet of the White Stripes' Hotel Yorba at his April 8, 2022, concert at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. In a new interview with The New York Times in 2022, Jean opened up about her wedding to White and stated:
"It was the best experience of my life. You could plan a wedding for five years, and it wouldn't compare to that."
