Currently, she is dating DJ Percy Karkaria. But do you know, Delnaaz had a messy divorce from her ex-husband, Rajeev Paul, after 14 years of marriage? Yes, you read it right. In a recent conversation, Delnaaz opened up about her messy divorce from Rajeev Paul.
In a recent conversation with Mashable India, Delnaaz Irani opened up about her divorce from her ex-husband, Rajeev Paul. She called it unfortunate. Delnaaz highlighted that the separation was not in her dictionary. She mentioned that her former partner, Rajeev, took her for granted. Delnaaz stated that the worst part of a relationship is when partners take each other for granted. She added that the separation made a bad impact on her mental health, and she struggled for the longest time. She was quoted as saying:
"It’s very unfortunate. Sadly, when you are mentally and emotionally off in the relationship, it is like two strangers living in the house. Many people used to announce their divorce in the newspaper. From my point of view, the relationship was over before 2010, before telling it to the world. In a relationship sometimes, you take each other for granted, and that’s the worst thing. My partner kept taking me for granted. He probably didn’t realise that this matter is going to get serious. Divorce was not even in my dictionary. The emotional turmoil was a struggle for the longest time."
In the same conversation, Delnaaz shared that she didn’t tell her parents about her divorce for many years. She was born in a middle-class Parsi family. For the uninitiated, Delnaaz and Rajeev tied the knot in 1998. Later, in 2012, their divorce was finalised. Delnaaz stated that her friends knew a little bit about her separation. She was quoted as saying:
"I didn’t tell my parents anything for so many years. My friends knew about it a little bit. I am quite sure my parents would have definitely supported me, but I was sure of not being a burden to anybody. It is very difficult, when you have been with someone for so many years and suddenly this happens."
During the same conversation, Delnaaz shared that she didn’t get any alimony from her ex-husband, Rajeev Paul, whom she met on the sets of Parivartan in 1993. She called her divorce messy. Delnaaz added that as one person wanted to split and the other didn’t, their separation became controversial. She was quoted as saying:
"I never got anything. The divorce was messy because one person wanted it and the other didn’t. It became very controversial, with a lot of fiction around it. I chose peace over everything. It’s easier said than done, but you have to pick up the pieces and move on."
Further in the conversation, Delnaaz Irani got candid about her current relationship with DJ Percy Karkaria. Delnaaz shared that he is also a divorcee like her. However, they have not got married because of her insecurities. Delnaaz stated that it’s just two people making a life who had a traumatic past. Delnaaz added that she cannot lose Percy, as he brought back everything she lost in her past marriage with Rajeev.
