Daniel Curtis Lee shared a new heartbreaking update regarding Tylor Chase, which drew backlash. Read to know why.
Former Nickelodeon star, Tylor Chase (born Tylor Kurtis Mendez) has been facing a tough time for years now. Viral videos showed him living homeless on the streets of Riverside, California. Tylor, best known for playing 'Martin Qwerly' on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, is currently almost unrecognisable as he takes life one day at a time. Many people who identified Tylor as a past acquaintance had offered him help, but he refused. Recently, his Ned's Declassified co-star, Daniel Curtis Lee, arranged for his stay at a hotel; however, that did not go well. After Daniel shared heartbreaking updates regarding Tylor, the former faced a wave of criticism.
Initially, when Daniel Curtis Lee brought Tylor Chase to the hotel, the latter seemed to be fine with it. Daniel's videos show Tylor interacting with him happily and even looking untroubled in the hotel. However, just hours after Daniel left Tylor alone in the room, the hotel authorities called the former to update him on Tylor, sharing unfavorable details. The hotel management reported to Daniel that Tylor "trashed" the hotel room and left the room's door wide open. The refrigerator was also flipped over, and the microwave was placed inside the bathtub. Daniel Curtis Lee was deeply saddened upon hearing the update and took to Instagram to share how devastated he was.
Daniel also shared that a local pizza place has kindly offered Tylor free pizzas until December 31, 2025, and after that, he would be dependent on others for food. Daniel asked everyone not to abandon Tylor and to contribute in whatever way they could. According to him, people should try to help Tylor until it's too late for any kind of assistance. By December 26, 2025, Tylor Chase was seen back on the streets of Riverside, California, allegedly refusing further treatment or medical attention. A heartbroken Daniel criticised California's mental health laws and suggested that a 5150 psychiatric hold might be necessary to get Chase into a detox or rehabilitation facility.
Daniel Curtis Lee faced flak online for recording the Tylor Chase situation and sharing it on TikTok. Many felt that Daniel was chasing clout by airing "someone's business" out there in public. "If they are my friend, why would I show the world something like this if my friend? To subject him to ridicule???," wrote an X-user. "Helping a friend is noble. Broadcasting it isn't," another user said. A third wrote, "Bro, this is real life, not a redemption reel for clicks." While some criticised Daniel, claiming he didn't help Tylor selflessly with a pure heart, others supported his efforts to be there for a friend in crisis.
Some also felt that Daniel Curtis Lee was trying to flaunt his wealth by taking Tylor Chase to a hotel room, even though he clearly knew that Tylor didn't accept anyone's help before. One X post read, "This is what happens when you hand out rooms without treatment." Another commented, "Good intentions don't replace actual mental health care." A third stated, "This is why, 'Just give the homeless houses, and problem solved!' people are truly m*rons." According to them, it was essential to understand Tylor's actual need: proper medical attention, not a home for him. Notably, Tylor's parents, local police officials, and other acquaintances of the former child actor also tried to help him, but to no avail.
Other former child stars, including Shaun Weiss of The Mighty Ducks, have offered to help arrange long-term rehab for Tylor, though he has reportedly remained resistant to these efforts. Tylor Chase's parents revealed that he has been battling bipolar disorder for years. They emphasised that Tylor frequently refused professional medical treatment and struggled with mental stability despite his family's repeated efforts. Around September 2025, when a TikToker, Citalli Wilson, tried to help Tylor financially and raised over USD 1,200 on GoFundMe, Tylor's mother requested that the campaign be shut down, stating, "Tylor needs medical attention, not money."
