Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleChristopher Nolan's upcoming offering, an adaptation of the Greek epic poem, The Odyssey, is all set to hit the theatres on July 17, 2026. Ahead of that, the ensemble cast and the director have been traveling the world to hold special premieres. On July 14, 2026, actors Tom Holland, Zendaya, Elliot Page, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, and Charlize Theron attended the New York City premiere of their movie. However, what made it to the social media chatter was the appearance of 50-year-old Charlize.
Just days before, Charlize Theron sparked health concerns at The Odyssey's Paris premiere as fans pointed out her gaunt physique. Now, at the NYC event, the actress looked noticeably different, prompting speculation that she had work done on her body or was on weight-management pills.
When Charlize Theron attended The Odyssey's Paris premiere at Le Grand Rex on July 8, 2026, she went viral for her slim appearance. In video clips shared on social media, where she was seen greeting fans and signing autographs, the lighting accentuated her ribcage and collarbones, leaving fans worried. Videos from the event prompted a flood of comments from concerned fans, some even labeling it as "Ozempic fatigue."
"Love her, but she has lost too much weight," one user wrote. Another commented, "I am concerned, as so many are here. So thin! Hope all is well with her." Now, a week later, Charlize appeared at the NYC premiere, and fans noted a stark difference in her appearance. They pointed out that the 50-year-old looked healthier and heartier. One X (formerly Twitter) user commented, "Yesterday she was still dying in her Ozempic figure. What drugs did she inject to look like a human just in a day?"
Many others echoed similar sentiments, saying they loved Charlize Theron's new look. However, they were also concerned that the online chatter about her gaunt appearance might have bothered the actress, and may have pushed her to resort to unhealthy methods of instant weight gain. Since the time gap between the Paris and NYC events was just six days, the change in Charlize's physique seemed too sudden and unrealistic to the fans.
Charlize Theron is widely known for dramatically transforming herself for movie roles. She gained 30 pounds to play murderer 'Aileen Wuornos' in the 2003 film, Monster. Later, for the 2018 film Tully, she again transformed herself by gaining almost 50 pounds for her role. Comparing the challenges of losing and gaining weight in her 40s and 20s, Charlize, in a 2018 interview with PEOPLE, admitted that she dealt with depression. In her words:
"My body flipped me off quite a bit. It's just way different when you're older. Also this time around I dealt with depression for the first time in my life. I just didn't eat very healthy, and a lot of the processed sugars and things just really put me into a terrible depression, and I'd never dealt with anything like that in my life. It totally took me off guard."
Charlize also shared that it was very difficult to get back in shape after gaining 50 pounds for Tully. She felt heavy, both physically and emotionally. She was not in great health and had trouble sleeping. The filming of the movie wrapped up just before Thanksgiving, a holiday known for big meals. So instead of starting a strict diet routine immediately, Charlize decided to enjoy the holiday. Then she took about a year and a half to lose the gains.
