Border 2 Ending Explained, How Does 'Fateh Singh Kaler' Save 'Hoshiar Singh Dahiya' In Indo-Pak War?

Border 2, starring Varun Dhawan, Sunny Deol, Ahan Shetty, Diljit Dosanjh and more hit the theatres on January 23, 2026. The war drama has been making waves on social media for its strong, powerful and intense narrative. For the unversed, the film is based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Amid that, read on to understand how the war drama, directed by Anurag Singh, ends.

Plotline of Border 2

The recently released film, Border 2 begins during the intense period of 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. At the time, there were extreme tensions along India's border. The movie opens with scenes of Indian soldiers, who are missing their family and loved ones; however they are committed to protect the nation at any cost. The film introduces 'Fateh Singh Kaler' (played by Sunny Deol), a fearless and experienced officer, who is the leader and backbone of the battalion. With him is 'Hoshiar Singh Dahiya' (played by Varun Dhawan), who is a young and determined officer.

In the first few minutes of the film, Border 2, intelligence reports warn the Indian Army about Pakistan's surprise attack named Operation Chengiz Khan. Even though, Indian Army has limited soldiers and resources, 'Fateh Singh Kaler' orders his men to fight and stop the enemies from crossing the border. In a nutshell, the first half of the film explores the bond between soldiers and their courage to fight till the last breath.

As the film progresses, Pakistan launches Operation Chengiz Khan and starts to attack the Indian Army with heavy weapons, tanks and air support. The Indian soldiers are outnumbered, but they still refuse to give up. To stop the enemies, the Indian Army joins hands with the Indian Air Force. During the war, 'Hoshiar Singh Dahiya' proves his bravery, but after sometime, he is surrounded by enemies and his survival seems next to impossible.

Border 2 ending explained: Does 'Hoshiar Singh Dahiya' die in the war?

Just when everyone feels that 'Hoshiar Singh Dahiya' won't be able to survive the war, 'Fateh Singh Kaler' arrives with backup forces, which leads to a powerful attack on Pakistani troops by the Indian Army. The war ends with 'Fateh Singh Kaler' saving 'Hoshiar Singh Dahiya'. The Indian Army is able to protect their border. Later, Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya hoists the Indian national flag, which symbolises the victory, sacrifice and courage of Indian men.

However, the film, Border 2 ends with an amazing surprise for the viewers. Towards the end, 'Fateh Singh Kaler' visits a Gurudwara with his wife and prays for his soldiers. At that time, 'Fateh Singh Kaler' sees all the martyrs, who had sacrificed their lives to protect the nation. This included Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty and Sudesh Berry. For the unversed, they had been sacrificed in the first film. Border 2 ends with them smiling with pride in their eyes towards the Indian Army.

The film, Border 2 also features Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa and Mona Singh. For the unversed, Mona Singh plays the role of Sunny Deol’s wife in the film. On the other hand, Diljit Dosanjh essays the role of 'Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon'. He was a flying officer, who received Param Vir Chakra for defending Srinagar air base during the war. Ahan Shetty portrayed the role of 'Lt Cdr M.S. Rawat' from INS Khukri. It is worth mentioning that Sunny Deol reportedly was the highest paid actor of Border 2. He took home a huge paycheque of Rs. 50 crore.
