The almost 25-year-old walked into the Netflix reality show as a disruptive wildcard entry. Apoorva's entry has generated both praise and dispute. Many loved her unapologetic energy, while others couldn't move past her India's Got Latent (IGL) row.
Apoorva recently opened up on how much the controversy affected her, even leading her to self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Her revelations touched many people who have been dealing with mental health issues.
Apoorva Mukhija came under hot waters along with Samay Raina and other panellists for some controversial statements they made in the show. Following which the creators involved faced immense hate, threats and harassment from the public. After months of trolling, Apoorva finally poured her heart out in a YouTube video detailing what all she went through due to the scandal.
In the video titled 'Till I Say It Is', Apoorva shared that she lived in a house for 17 years where she didn't feel loved or cared for. She recalled spending sleepless nights crying and even going to the extent of self-harming. She revealed still having those scars with her, both physically and mentally. However, she was resilient and would keep going until everything was over. Apoorva's exact words were:
"A lot of times in life, people are going to tell you it's over. I used to live in a house that never felt like home for 17 years. I have cried a lot of sleepless nights in that house, I have self-harmed, and I still have the scars, and back then, every day I used to think that it's over."
The backlash post the IRL row was so intense that it made Apoorva develop sleep paralysis. She was scared to wake up from sleep as the moment she opened her eyes, she found another hateful update about her. Although Apoorva found support in her friends at that time, it was difficult for her to get back to normalcy. She expressed her gratitude for having "great people" by her side during her difficult time, and mentioned:
"Every single day that I would wake up, something new would be happening. I would have sleep paralysis because I would be scared. Everytime I would wake up there is some new news. My friends would talk to me everyday all the time to say everything will be fine. They are great people and they had faith in me. I could believe that everything be alright. I am so glad I had such good people around me."
Due to the extreme outrage, Apoorva Mukhija deleted or archived all her posts on Instagram and wanted to stay lowkey. Notably, they took to her comments to brutally troll her, leading to her taking such a step. On April 8, 2025, Apoorva shared screenshots of comments that included rape and death threats and also acid attack warnings.
After opening up about her mental health deterioration following the IGL row, Apoorva Mukhija admitted that she did go too far with the jokes while in flow. She assured that she would be more careful from the next time and would not repeat the same mistake. However, she also stated that the public reaction was a bit too harsh. Retaliating to the intense scrutiny against her, Apoorva Mukhija stated:
"I should have been more mindful, and I truly have learned my lesson...It came from genuine anger and the need to retaliate. I was just standing up for myself."
