Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a well-known face in Bollywood. She broke many hearts when she got married to Abhishek Bachchan on April 20, 2007, in Mumbai. The duo has been happily married for about 16 years now and are proud parents to their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. Son of veteran actors, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek fell in love with Aishwarya on the sets of the film, Guru, which was released in January 2007. Soon, the couple tied the knot, and Aishwarya Rai became the 'Bachchan Bahu'.
Earlier, in a 2008 interview with NDTV, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was asked about her views on being called the Bahu of the Bachchan clan and if she ever felt that the Bachchan surname in some way affected her identity. Reacting to the same, the actress said that she is just a regular girl named Aishwarya Rai, who got married to Abhishek Bachchan. She was quoted as saying:
“This question is a bit too drawn out there to have any kind of relevance in my life. Even all these terms get coined for glorious reading. It just makes it sound a little more dramatic than it is in terms of ‘Bachchan Bahu’. I’m just a regular girl. I’m Aishwarya Rai who got married to Abhishek Bachchan. So, that’s my name today.”

Speaking along the same lines, Aishwarya said that since the members of the Bachchan family have been in the public eye for a long time, there is a lot of talk about the surname. The actress further mentioned that she and Abhishek loved each other and they got married with their parent's blessings, and their union had nothing to do with the dignity of the Bachchan surname. She added:
“It’s all perception and I guess it kind of generates the talk because of the fact that the members of this family have definitely been in the public eye so I guess thereby the relevance of the surname. People within the family have earned the recognition on the public platform and deservedly so the name is given its place and people work hard to retain its dignity and that’s the functioning of a family. But we are a family. Abhishek and I loved each other and we got our parents blessings and we got married. We weren’t looking to make a statement.”
Aishwarya Rai is a doting bahu of the Bachchan family, and it was in no time that she became a vital part of the clan and completely gelled with them. Moreover, her father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan adores his bahu for the pure soul she is and often heaps praises on her. A proof of the same we witnessed in the season finale episode of Starry Nights 2.Oh!, when Big B was asked how the family dynamics changed after Abhishek and Aishwarya's wedding. To which, the loving sasurji said:
"Nothing has changed for us, it was like one daughter left and another one came in."

Earlier, in a podcast with Raj Shamani, Abhishek Bachchan opened up about his values and respect for his surname, ‘Bachchan’. Talking about the same, he revealed that he considers his surname sacred to his very existence, as it has made him what he is worth today. Reflecting his immense respect and dignity for the same, Abhishek mentioned that after him, his daughter, Aaradhya, has been trying to understand the weight and legacy of their surname. Crediting his wife, Aishwarya, Abhishek mentioned that the former has already taught their daughter about the great legacy that her grandfather and great-grandfather have carried over the ages.
For the unversed, Aishwarya and Abhishek hopped onto the parenthood journey with the arrival of their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, in November 2011.
