Vivek Oberoi Says Mani Ratnam Got A Heart Attack, After Seeing His Bike Accident On 'Yuva's Sets

Vivek Oberoi recalls suffering the most horrific accident early on in his career, and revealed how even his filmmaker was affected by the brutality of the incident.

Vivek Oberoi was undoubtedly the chocolate boy of the ‘90s, who unanimously charmed his way to the hearts of millions of fans out there. Films like Kyu Ho Gaya Na, Kisna, Saathiya, Yuva, Omkara, Prince among others established him as the OG romantic hero of the times, and the actor was paired with a plethora of leading actresses in each of it. Moving on, with the passage of time, Vivek added more nuance and charisma to his performances, and till date, has been hailed as one of the most versatile actors of his generation.

Vivek Oberoi recalls meeting with a brutal accident, fractured his leg at three places

In an interaction with Zoom, Vivek Oberoi reminisced an important anecdote from one of his initial films, Yuva that boasted of a studded cast, including Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Esha Deol and Rani Mukerji, along with him. He mentioned how during the filming of one of the scenes, he met with a brutal bike accident, and ended up badly fracturing his leg at three places. Adding how it was Ajay and Abhishek who rescued him and took him to the hospital, Vivek narrated:

“That evening when a perfectly fun day turned into pain with a terrible motorcycle accident breaking my left leg in three places. I remember my big brother Ajay and my buddy Abhishek at my side, carrying me to the hospital, being my side through the agony of broken bones tearing through my skin with blood everywhere.”

Vivek reveals how the magnanimity of his accident affected Mani Ratnam, who had a heart attack

Moving forth in his stream of revelations, Vivek Oberoi shockingly revealed that the scale of his accident was so massive, that just by seeing the sight of the brutal accident, Yuva’s filmmaker, Mani Ratnam ended up suffering from a heart attack, and was rushed to the hospital. Adding how the two of them recovered alongside one another, Vivek said:

“I came to know Mani Anna had a heart attack after witnessing my accident. Whilst both of us were recovering in the hospital, Ajay and Abhishek were with me, lifting my spirits with jokes and painkillers in a not-so-lucid state.”


Vivek once revealed how everyone advised him to not be a part of Saathiya

In another of his earlier conversations with the Humans Of Bombay, Vivek Oberoi talked about his super successful film, Saathiya and remarked how people around warned him not to do the particular project at all. He spoke of his mentor and filmmaker, Ram Gopal Verma, who advised him that his image of an action hero and the plot of a love story wouldn’t gel well together.

When Vivek credited Akshay Kumar for never leaving his side when the former was boycotted in the industry

Previously, while speaking with Mirchi Plus, Vivek Oberoi heaped praises on his colleague, Akshay Kumar for always having his back. The former spoke about a time when he faced boycott in the film industry, following the shocking allegations he made against Salman Khan in 2003. Vivek mentioned how it was nobody else apart from Akshay, who directed tons of work towards him. In his words:

“Bata kya problem chal rahi hai teri life mein?’ he asked me and then let me vent out, air my problems, pain. He heard me patiently and said, ‘I can help you with a positive mindset. There are several shows going on, and you have blockbuster songs. I am shooting a lot, so I can’t do these shows, but whatever enquiries come to me, I will divert it to you. You do it.”
