Captain of the Indian national football team, Sunil Chhetri and his darling wife, Sonam Bhattacharya are on cloud nine as they are all set to embrace parenthood for the first time in their lives. And to announce the same, Sunil did something extremely unique and made his millions of fans go in awe of it. For the unversed, Sunil made his dulhaniya, Sonam his ‘forever’ on December 4, 2017, in a grand wedding ceremony in Kolkata. For the wedding, while Sunil was dressed in a traditional Nepali attire topped with a topi, his then-bride, Sonam looked stunning in a red Bengali attire. Since then, the couple keeps sharing mushy glimpses of themselves on their respective social media handles.
Sunil Chhetri scored his 86th goal for India against Vanuatu in the International Cup in 2023. The match took place at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, on June 12, 2003. This was indeed a big moment for Sunil's team; the Blue Tigers and the footballer scored the winning goal in the 81st minute, much to the delight of the Indian fans. Following this, to celebrate the goal, Sunil was seen putting the ball inside his jersey shirt and walking towards the side of the stadium, wherein his wife was standing and cheering towards him from the gallery.

Soon, Sunil was seen cradling the football underneath his shirt and blowing kisses towards his wife, Sonam. The moment was treasurable, and this is how he announced that the couple is expecting. Sonam too, radiated a beautiful pregnancy glow in a few videos capturing the moment from the inside of the stadium.

Post-match, Sunil also revealed how he and his wife, Sonam wanted to share the news in the same manner. Though he too, jokingly called the moment super clingy but revealed how he and Sonam had decided to announce the news once he scores a goal in the match.

Earlier, on the official social media profile of Humans of Bombay, Sunil Chhetri revealed his love story with his wife, Sonam Bhattacharya. He revealed his coach, Subrata Bhattacharya’s daughter, Sonam had approached him by stealing his number from her dad’s phone. Sunil shared that at that time, he was only 18, and Sonam was 15. Afterwards, they talked for some time over phone. However, after some time, he asked her to stop this because he feared losing his career. Following this, a few months passed, and Sunil couldn't get her out of his mind. So he texted her back.

Afterwards, Sunil and Sonam started talking once again without letting anybody know about them. However, since Sunil used to travel a lot, they got to meet only twice or thrice a year. Over the years, their love and bonding grew with each other. Sunil also praised his wife for being his support system. Finally, when the time came and Sunil had to talk with Sonam's father about their marriage, the footballer locked himself inside the bathroom for hours. However, as soon as Sunil came out, Sonam's father gave a nod of approval to the couple, and the rest is history.
