Sonam Kapoor Ahuja has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry ever since she stepped into it in 2007. She made her debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, and since then, Sonam has become one of the most talked about celebs from Bollywood. Be it her extravagant sartorial choices or her candid point of view, the 38-year-old has made headlines for some or the other reason. Recently, we stumbled upon one of her such interviews, where Sonam spoke about providing for herself.
Sonam Kapoor once graced Simi Garewal's show, India's Most Desirable, in the year 2012. During their conversation, Simi said that the actress has been one of the best-dressed women not only in Bollywood but in India. She further went on to say that Sonam wears the best designer clothes, jewellery and accessories, and she must be very high maintenance. Simi said that the actress needed to marry a rich person, who could afford this lifestyle of her. To this, Sonam quipped that she could provide for herself. She said:
“I can provide for myself. I don't need a man to provide for me, no matter what.”

Sonam further revealed that her dad, Anil Kapoor has never paid for her lavish and opulent lifestyle. When Simi asked what she meant by this statement of hers, the actress went on to explain the same. She said that apart from living with her parents in the same house, her father has never bought her a designer bag. She added:
“My dad hasn’t paid for any of it. Besides the fact that I live in our house, otherwise, my dad has never bought me a designer thing in his life. My dad, my mother do not buy me designer things. The designer bag that I bought myself, I was in London, I had just finished Saawariya, and I had done a ramp walk or something like that, and I got a little bit of money, and I went and bought a Chanel bag for myself.”
In the same interaction, Sonam Kapoor divulged that her parents never allowed her to fly in business class. She used to travel in the economy, and even the first car she bought was with her own hard-earned money. She further shared that her parents, Anil Kapoor and Sunita, used to be very particular about this. These revelations left Simi in utter shock.

A clip from the same interaction was shared by an Instagram page recently. The video has garnered over 959K views, and netizens have been penning down their thoughts on Sonam Kapoor’s disclosure. One user asked, “And who bought you that career?” Another one said, “It’s easy to afford designer things if you don’t need to pay for rent, education, opportunities, food, etc.” A third comment can be read as “Normally people don't get 'Saawariya' as their first job.”
