In an interview with Pinkvilla, Shabana Azmi got candid about her personal life and revealed interesting details about the same. Sharing the secret to her successful relationship with her husband, Javed Akhtar, the actress revealed the 'magic words' that Javed told her to resolve a fight. She revealed that during every fight, either one of them asks the other to drop it and the other person obliges, and then they would revisit the subject later in a calmer state. Shabana said:

"When we're...angry...either one of us should say drop it and...the other should drop it. All the couples must exercise this mantra because when one is angry, one ends up saying things that they regret later. Revisiting an issue during a calmer state of mind really works."

Shabana shares the most romantic thing Javed Akhtar did for her 50th birthday

Shabana also shared that she and Javed are not romantic people, but they always try to find romance in the little things they do during their time together. Recalling an anecdote when Javed had done an incredibly romantic thing for her on her 50th birthday, the actress revealed that it touched her heart. Shabana shared she had once seen a sculpture by Salvador Dali back in London and was instantly taken by it. However, when Javed suggested buying it, she declined his offer. Sharing the details, she said:

“No no, it’s too expensive. Then I think on my 50th birthday, I found in my bedroom that sculpture with his poem Waqt, which was written in a very beautiful letter. He had gone through such limits that I shouldn’t get to know about the surprise. That was what touched me, the effort he put into it. Otherwise, I don’t value gifts of that kind.”

Shabana also talked about the marketing gimmicks of Valentine’s Day and the idea of gifting diamonds to lovers and added that such gifts do not mark the value of love. However, revealing the true sense of love and the beautiful feeling attached to it, the actress shared that she finds it beautiful when her hands touch Javed's hands while they both are reading. In her words:

“When both of us are reading, and we just touch each other’s hand, when we are totally comfortable with each other, I think all that is beautiful."
