Shahid was just 23 and a couple of films old when he had fallen in love with Kareena. We remember in many media interactions, Bebo had claimed that they share a beautiful bond and she can even call him up at 12:30 in the night. On the other, Shahid had often shared that though they have extremely different personalities, they fill each other's empty spaces perfectly. And the entire nation thought they are meant to be, but in the year 2007, they parted ways as Kareena Kapoor Khan fell in love with Saif Ali Khan.
Recently, in an interview with Anupama Chopra for Film Companion, Kareena bared her heart out and talked about the infamous breakup and how she met her husband, Saif Ali Khan on the sets of Tashan. Kareena shared that she was excited to play the lead in Tashan and thought that it will change her life and career. And then Shahid informed her about Jab We Met script. Kareena said, "It was Shahid who actually said that I should hear this script of this film. He was like, ‘It’s amazing, the girl’s part is amazing and you should do it.’ He kind of actually got this entire project together and both of us ended up doing this film. Of course, then destiny had its own plan and life took its own course. A lot happened in the making of this film and Tashan and our lives... We all kind of went our separate ways. And this beauty of a movie came out of it."
Kareena further added, "I think we just had to kind of do this movie at this time when Tashan was being made...and I met Saif. So I kind of did Tashanfor that actually...when I actually thought that that was gonna change my life and my career. But this (Jab We Met) changed my career and that (Tashan) changed my life. Because I did meet the man of my dreams and I did marry him. And this (relationship with Shahid) kind of took its own course in which both Shahid and me went our separate ways. And this gem came out of it." (Also Read: Saif Ali Khan Talks About How Kareena Kapoor Has Broken The Stereotype On Gender Roles In Marriage)
In a throwback interview with the Cosmopolitan, Kareena had talked about Shahid and her relationship. She had shared, "We do the stuff any other young couple does, eating out, watching movies...I really enjoy watching movies. When we get a chance, we go to Fame Ad Labs to see films, we sneak in when it's dark after the movie has started. It's lovely. It's so relaxing. That's what I enjoy most about being with Shahid. I get to be normal and do normal things."
Kareena and Saif's relationship rumour started when the duo was spotted together outside a club in Bandra and the media mills were abuzz with their romance news. Just a year into the relationship, Saif had taken the bold step of tattooing Kareena's name on his forearm. And this was enough to woo her. After dating for five years, on October 16, 2012, the two had sealed the deal in an intimate wedding. On October 16, 2019, Kareena and Saif had completed seven years of togetherness. They had celebrated the day with a get-together and pictures of the day had gotten viral on Instagram. In one of the pictures, we could see the gorgeous couple cutting a heart-shaped cake with their son, Taimur Ali Khan.
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Kareena had talked about how love brewed between her and Saif. She had shared, "When I thought I was falling, Saif caught me. I’d met him before, but while we were filming Tashan, something changed. I wore my heart on my sleeve! He was so charming; I fell for him hook, line & sinker. I remember while shooting in Ladakh & Jaisalmer, we’d go on long bike rides for some alone time. We’d enjoy the beauty, have great conversations & just bond!"
She had further added, "He’s 10 years older than me & has 2 kids. But for me, he was just Saif–he helped me heal & love myself. Maybe it was the fact that we’re so different–he’s more private & not ‘Bollywoodised’, but I imbibed that from him. I learnt to balance things & not let them get to me. We'd been dating for a while, when he said he’s not 25 & can't keep dropping me home every night. So he told my mom, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with her. We want to live together.' My mom was cool with it. It’s so easy with him. Even when we decided to get married, it felt right."
