Karan Johar is one of the most popular filmmakers in Bollywood. He has directed some iconic films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Student of The Year, My Name Is Khan, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Lust Stories, and many more. Currently, the filmmaker is bagging immense success for his recently-released film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. For the unversed, the film features amazing actors like Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and many more.
In an interview with Prabal Gurung, Karan Johar opened up about Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi's love story from his film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Talking about the same, the filmmaker revealed that their story was inspired by one of his family members, who was suffering from dementia. He added that his family member was a married man, but he kept on taking the name of a lady. In his words:
"I remember there was an incident that happened in my family where a member of my family actually had dementia and he had gone back to his past love. Only thing is he was a married man and he kept taking the name of this one lady."

Further, Karan shared that later, everyone in his family got to know that the person was having an affair. Mentioning how a lot of drama happened during that time, the filmmaker added that his father and mother had to fly down to control the situation.
In the same conversation, Karan revealed that instead of feeling bad, he was actually quite intrigued with the idea of infidelity. The filmmaker also mentioned that someone asked him why he was endorsing infidelity through his film. Stating that he has always wondered how infidelity can be a reality, Karan said:
"And I remember instead of feeling terrible about what was happening between these three people at an average age of 82, I was like, 'Wow, like this is great.' For me, I'm so obsessed with infidelity. I made a movie on it and I remember someone telling me, 'Why are you endorsing infidelity?' I'm like, 'Dude you can't endorse something that's already sold out.' Just emotionally speaking, I'm always intrigued by the idea of infidelity and how it can be a reality."

Soon after the film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani hit the silver screens on July 28, 2023, it grabbed a lot of attention from the audience. For the unversed, the film featured an intimate kissing scene between the characters of Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, 'Kanwal Lund' and 'Jamini Chatterjee'. It was a huge surprise for their fans, and they even flooded the internet with their reactions.
Earlier, in a candid conversation with Mid Day, Karan had opened up about his film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Talking about the same, the filmmaker revealed that he may have subconsciously been inspired by Akshay and Twinkle's chemistry while developing the characters, 'Rani and Rocky'. Elaborating more on Twinkle and Akshay's relationship, he stated that they have a beautiful friendship in their marriage and a distinct kind of comfort.
