Jimmy Sheirgill made his fans skip a heartbeat with his terrific performance and handsome looks in films like Maachis, Munnabhai MBBS, Mohabbatein, Dil Hai Tumhara, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai among so many others. He was loved for his romantic portrayals on-screen, which gave him the tag of a chocolate boy in no time. And now, in a recent interaction, Jimmy recalled how he prepped up for his special role in the Sanjay Dutt starrer film, Munnabhai MBBS.
The Sanjay Dutt-Arshad Warsi starrer film, Munnabhai MBBS is easily counted among the list of classic films, that were ever made in Hindi cinema. Apart from the duo, the film also featured actors like Jimmy Sheirgill, Boman Irani and Gracy Singh among others, in pivotal roles. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Jimmy Sheirgill recalled fond memories from his shooting diaries of the film and mentioned how he had developed a habit of sleeping in hospital beds, so as to prep for his portrayal of a cancer patient. He mentioned:
“While the Munna Bhai crew was lighting up the location, I would wear my hospital patient costume and doze off on one of the fake hospital beds that was part of set furniture, because I knew that we had to shoot all night long later. And when someone suddenly woke me up, I would instantly go to shoot in that sleep-deprived, dishevelled look.”
In an earlier interaction with Cyrus Broacha on his YouTube channel, Jimmy Sheirgill opened up about working in the blockbuster film, Mohabbatein. He mentioned that he received so much fame after the film’s success and thereafter got so busy that it made him become a guest at his own wedding. Elaborating more on that particular situation, he had said:
“I was doing that kind of roles – all romantic, singing and dance. In the middle, I had been a guest at my own wedding also because I couldn’t take out time. Like North Indian weddings they keep the functions for 10-15 days. I couldn’t make it for those many days, I was there only for 2-3 days because I was shooting for the film Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar. I only went for the main functions of my marriage. That’s how things were 2-3 years after Mohabbatein."
In one of his older interviews with The Times Of India, Jimmy Sheirgill had opened up about the kind of bonding he shares with his family. The actor mentioned how back when he was barely 18 years old, he refused to wear the turban, being a Punjabi, and added that since he wasn’t able to manage his long hair, he even cut them. After his decision, all his family members, including his parents had cut off all ties with him.
Despite being immensely successful in his professional life, Jimmy Sheirgill prefers to keep his personal life low-key. For the unversed, the actor tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Priyanka Puri in 2001. The duo is blessed with a son, Veer.
