There has always been a debate over the cliched phrase ‘opposites attract’. Well, opposites do attract, but for a relationship to work, one also need similarities. Life isn’t about finding a perfect one, but having someone, who completes you and together you strive to become ‘perfect’! Love is finding someone, who makes you quote Chandler Bing from Friends, "You make me happier than I ever thought I could be. And if you let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way." And Isha Ambani found her ordinary life partner in Anand Piramal and together they make for an extraordinary couple!
Isha Ambani, daughter of Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, found her lobster in a family friend, Anand Piramal, son of Ajay Piramal and Swati Piramal. Isha and Anand are 100% the real-life representation of the phrase, ‘opposites attract’. While Isha is vivacious, Anand is a reserved personality, but what works for them is understanding of each other’s profession and dreams. Belonging from business families, Isha and Anand both are passionate working individuals, who know the importance of work. ‘Three words, eight letters, say it, and I’m yours’ moment finally came into Isha Ambani’s life in May 2018 when Anand Piramal had got down on his knees to propose her for marriage.
The friendship between Ambanis and Piramals goes down to four decades and that is how Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal came to know each other. In fact, it was Mukesh Ambani only who had encouraged Anand to go for entrepreneurship when he was confused between consulting and banking. According to an Economic Times report, Anand was quoted as saying:
“I asked him, whether I should get into consulting or banking? He told me, ‘Being a consultant is like watching cricket or commentating about cricket, while being an entrepreneur is like playing cricket. You can’t learn how to play cricket by commentating. If you want to do something, be an entrepreneur in the long term and start now’.” He continued, “I told him, ‘You should have told me that when I was 20, not at 25’.”
Before giving a recap of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal’s journey from proposal to marriage, here’s an educational and professional background of the young inspirational couple. Daughter of Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani was ranked second on Forbes' 'Youngest Billionaire Heiresses' list in 2008. Successfully carrying forward her family’s legacy, Isha, an Ivy-League graduate from Yale University with a degree in psychology and South Asian studies, has carved her niche in the business world. Did you know that it was Isha, who had seeded the idea of Jio in her father, Mukesh? Yes, it was her constant issues with the internet speed because of which Jio came into being!
Just because Isha Ambani is an heiress to a vast fortune doesn’t mean she is not working towards making her own name in the world and she is quite passionate about women empowerment. A perfect example of beauty with brains, Isha has managed to escape the shadow cast of her power parents, Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani. Businesswoman and philanthropist, Isha has kept her personal life guarded from the media glares, but her name is enough to increase our curiosity.
Anand Piramal, on the other hand, holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Anand was also the youngest President of the Youth Wing of the 100-year-old Indian Merchant Chambers. Anand is also the founder of a rural healthcare start-up called, Piramal eSwasthya. Executive Director of Piramal Group, Non-Executive Director of Piramal Enterprises Limited and Founder of Piramal Realty, Anand was conferred with the Hurun Real Estate Unicorn of the Year Award (2017) by Hurun India and Young Business Leader Award by Hello! Magazine (2018).
Knowing each other as family friends, Cupid had struck Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal with its sharpest arrow and love eventually blossomed between them. As per a Rozbuzz report, Isha and Anand had begun dating together in 2016 and two years later in 2018, he popped up the most-awaited question of ‘Will you marry me?’ in a temple at Mahabaleshwar. And obviously, Isha had answered with a ‘yes’! Later the entire family had celebrated the good news with the newly-engaged couple. In May, the Ambanis had hosted a grand proposal party, which was attended by the who’s who of the entertainment and cricket industry.
In September 2018, Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal had exchanged rings on the picturesque venue, Lake Como, Italy. The engagement bash was a lavish 3-day affair and for the main day, Isha had looked ethereal in a rare piece from Dolce and Gabbana’s collection, while Anand looked dapper in a black-coloured bandhgala.
On October 30, 2018, Ambanis and Piramals had released a joint statement confirming the wedding of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal. It could be read as:
“We are delighted to share that the marriage of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal will take place in the residence of Shri Mukesh Ambani and Smt. Nita Ambani in Mumbai with family members and close friends on 12th December, 2018. The ceremonies will be performed in accordance with Indian traditions, customs and culture. During the weekend prior to the wedding, the Ambani and Piramal families will host their friends and family in Udaipur, where they are partnering with artisans and craftsmens to integrate local culture and traditions into the festivities. Both families seek the blessings and good wishes of everyone for Isha and Anand as they start their journey of togetherness. Nita and Mukesh Ambani Swati and Ajay Piramal.”
Before Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal had said ‘I Do’ in a grand ceremony, the families and their friends had gathered in Udaipur to celebrate the union of the lovebirds. Before heading off to Udaipur for the pre-wedding celebrations, the Ambanis had begun the festivities on an auspicious note i.e., with the Griha Shanti puja and Anna Seva. From building sets for a puja, preparing floating stages, having top-notch Bollywood celebrities as background artists, VIP/VVIPs as guests including the former First Lady of United States of America, Hillary Clinton and Beyonce to flying the whole of B-town to Udaipur for the couple’s pre-wedding ceremonies, the Ambanis had truly lived up to their surname when it comes to celebrations!
On December 12, 2018, Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal had finally embarked on their journey of ‘happily ever after’ at her residence, Antilia. From an enormous baraat, grand welcome of the dulhe raja, Anand by his two brothers-in-law, Akash Ambani and Anant Ambani on horses to the fun-filled varmala ceremony, emotional kanyadaan and soul-stirring vidaai, Isha and Anand’s marriage had made us yearn for a wedding as theirs! On December 13, 2018, Piramals had hosted a grand wedding reception at Isha and Anand’s new home, Gulita. For the uninitiated, Isha and Anand’s abode, Gulita was presented to them by his parents, Ajay Piramal and Swati Piramal as a wedding gift. It was followed by another star-studded wedding reception on December 14, 2018, at Jio Gardens. December 15, 2018, witnessed another wedding reception, which was hosted for their Reliance family.
Isha Ambani had then added ‘Piramal’ to her surname, and in a post-wedding interview with Vogue, the heiress of Reliance had confessed that she and her hubby, Anand Piramal are rather two different souls as a couple. She had remarked:
“He hates attending events, I enjoy them. I really enjoyed our wedding, but it was not exactly his idea of fun (laughs). He’s more spiritual than I am. But we are also very similar. We are both very family-oriented, and we both love food. I remember in one of the speeches that my father gave at my wedding, he listed ten reasons why he liked Anand. It was hilarious, and dad concluded by saying that these are probably the same ten things that he would also use to describe himself. And it’s true; in many ways Anand reminds me of my father.”
Isha Ambani Piramal had revealed the reasons that make her hubby Anand Piramal, a great life partner and if the work-life balance has changed after her marriage:
“I love his amazing sense of humour and his spirituality. Last night, we had dinner, and then from 11 pm to 3 am Anand had a meeting in his office. So, I don’t think his life has changed, and neither has mine. At this stage, work is a priority for both of us. And luckily, our parents understand that. Fortunately, the family I was born into and the family I married into have the same work ethic—every member of both families knows the importance of work.”
Isha Ambani Piramal’s wedding was such that the world will not forget it for the longest of time. Speaking about her big fat Gujju wedding, Isha had shared:
“The wedding went off beautifully. Like any other bride, I had my share of bridal jitters but getting married at home made it very special and I had the time of my life celebrating my most memorable moments with all the people I love.”
We wish Isha and Anand, an eternity of happiness, love and togetherness!
