How To Lose Post-Wedding Weight In Just 1 Week

Weddings are most definitely a time for celebration and lots of food. The only drawback to them is the post-wedding weight gain, especially for the brides. The worst bit is looking into the mirror, and looking at all those inches that you have gained over the past few weeks! And, what about the clothes that you just got stitched, don’t they also feel a little tight? You have to get back to routine, and we know that is never an easy thing to do.

Well, if this has happened to you already, don't worry. It happens to almost everyone (even with our favourite celebrities) and you are no exception. In fact, when telly world's queen Divyanka Tripathi had tied the knot earlier this year, we could notice this change in her too. But as we said, don't feel bad, because all you need is 1 week to fit into those stunning newly-stitched clothes. A simple twist to your regular routine, a diet chart and you are sorted in one week.

So, here is the complete diet chart that newlywed brides need to follow to detox their body of their post-wedding weight gain. Let us call this “Refresher Week” diet plan.

Common rules for ALL days

Here are some common rules that you need to stick to all through this week. Any deviation from these is not an option, as you owe this to your body.

  • How much water is okay? Start the day with 2 glasses of water, and have plenty of water throughout the day. You can also have lemon water.
  • For tea and coffee lovers: If you are in the habit of having tea or coffee, then replace it with green tea.
  • What oils are allowed? Cow’s ghee, sesame, extra virgin olive oil or groundnut oil - only 4 tsp per day is permitted.
  • The right seasonings: Lemon, ginger, cumin seeds, turmeric, coriander, rock salt, and green chilies, and other herbs and spices as needed.

  • The exercise bit: Add some cardio exercise daily to your lifestyle.
  • And the right juices: Add one or two glasses of vegetable juices to your diet (See below to know more about vegetable juices you can add to your diet).

Sample daily food plan

Here is a sample food plan for you, so that you know how to divide your meals and your calories. Use this as the base for your “Refresher Week” diet. 


1 big bowl of fruit and warm water with ginger and lemon/ green tea with tulsi leaves in it, as it is an anti-stress agent.


Have some nuts to curb your mid-meal and untimely hunger pangs: a handful of walnuts and almonds are always a good option.


Pick up a salad of raw vegetables with dressing of lemon, pepper and salt; and a lightly-spiced vegetable cooked with crushed garlic. With this, go for either 1 katori brown rice or a chapatti of bajra/jowar/ragi. And, end this with a glass of buttermilk.

A fruit + 15 pistachios (these can be lightly spiced and salty) + green tea.


Salad + carrot soup + steamed sprouts or cooked lentils + steamed veggies cooked in minimum oil.

Choices of juices

Here are a few healthy juices that you can add to your diet as you detox:

  • Mixed juices of carrot and spinach (it is a great blood purifier).
  • Amla juice (this one helps to improves immunity). 
  • Wheat grass juice (this is an excellent antioxidant, and also aids in preventing cancer).
  • Ginger juice (this is good for headache, nausea and throat congestion).

Foods to AVOID

Keep yourself away from these foods and drinks as far as possible to get the best results out of this detox diet.

  • Fried foods
  • Packaged fruit juice
  • Pickles
  • Jams
  • Aerated drinks
  • Biscuits
  • Mithais (sweets/desserts)

  • Chocolates
  • Ice creams
  • Yoghurt
  • Mayonnaise in salads

The options given in the diet plan are varied, so that you do not get bored. Eating vegetables and grains in an interesting manner, and making a new pulse daily is the best way to stick to your detox plan. This plan would help you to get out of the post-wedding fatigue and weight gain.
