We all know Dharmendra Deol was a married man and had tied the knot with Prakash Kaur in the year 1957. However, it was in the '70s when he had fallen for Hema Malini's charm. In the beginning, the actress had made sure not to reciprocate his feelings as she didn't want to get involved with a married man but she was not able to avoid his love for long and gave in. And in the year 1980, the duo had tied the knot in an intimate ceremony.
Recently, Hema Malini graced the sets of Indian Idol 12, wherein she talked about a lot of things. During a segment in the show, Hema ji narrated an interesting story when she was dating Dharmendra. The actress reminisced the time and shared that they were shooting for a song and for that her father, especially had accompanied her, so that she could not spend alone time with Dharmendra. While sharing the incident, Hema ji said, "Usually my mother or my aunt used to accompany me on shoots but during the shoot of one of the songs my father accompanied me as he was worried that me and Dharam ji shouldn’t spend some time alone as he knew we were friends. I remember this when we used to travel in a car my father used to immediately sit next to me but even Dharam ji was no less he used to sit at the next seat."
Earlier, in an interview with the Deccan Chronicle, Hema ji had talked about her decision of marrying Dharmendra ji. She had revealed that she had never wanted to hurt anyone because of her love, not even his first wife, and hence, she had never intruded in their life. The Dream Girl had proudly stated that she had never taken Dharmendra away from his first wife and children. She was quoted as saying, "The minute I saw Dharam ji, I knew he was the man for me. I wanted to spend my life with him. I also wanted to make sure that the marriage hurt nobody. His first wife and children have never felt my intrusion in their lives. Talking about Hema ji and Dharmendra ji's wedding, it was an intimate traditional Tamil ceremony, the way the actress had always imagined. In an interview with Rediff.com, Hema ji had talked about her equation with Dharmendra's first wife, Prakash, and had shared, "I didn't want to disturb anyone. I am happy with whatever Dharamji did for me and my daughters. He played the role of a father like any father would do. I guess I am happy with that. Though I have never spoken about Prakash, I respect her a lot. Even my daughters respect Dharamji's family. The world wants to know about my life in detail, but that is not for others to know. It's no one's business."
Dharmendra's first wife, Prakash Kaur shares a cordial relationship with Hema ji. In a throwback interview with Stardust magazine, she had shared that she understands Hema ji's side as well. The star-wife had stated that she knows that even Hema ji had to face the world, her relatives and her friends. However, she was clear that if she was in her place, she wouldn't have done what she did. (Don't Miss: Nakuul Mehta's Wife, Jankee Parekh Shares FIRST PICTURE With Her One-Month-Old Son, Sufi)
