Annu Kapoor is a well-known actor, singer, director, radio disc jockey, and television presenter. He has been part of several films and television projects in his career spanning over 40 years, including Ek Ruka Hua Faisla, Jolly LLB 2, 7 Khoon Maaf, Hum, Ghayal, Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Aitraaz, and many more. Recently, he was also part of a Radio show, Suhaana Safar With Annu Kapoor, which aired on 92.7 big FM. However, do you know Annu Kapoor's name was not this earlier? Yes! You read it right. Now, in an interview, he revealed the same and also talked about the reason behind changing his name.
For the uninitiated, Annu Kapoor was born with the name 'Anil Kapoor'. However, after coming to the industry, he changed to what we today know him as 'Annu Kapoor'. In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Annu recalled the initial days when he came to Mumbai to join the industry. He mentioned how by that time, his Mr. India co-star, Anil Kapoor was already an eminent name in the Hindi film industry. He shared:
"I came to Mumbai in 1984 and Anil Kapoor was already a star by that time. He was born in 1965 December and I was born in February the same year. Though, none of that matters really. Now, he is a hero and I am zero. The one who is zero has to compromise."

Thus, Annu shared that he had to change his name to something other than 'Anil'. He mentioned that at that time in India, people named Anuradha, Anil, Anupam, Anees, and Anwar used to have the nickname 'Annu'. Undoubtedly, he too, had the same nickname. Further, he explained that this is how his pet name changed to his screen name and how people started fondly calling him 'Annu Kapoor'. He also talked about his gratefulness towards this name and shared:
"So, my family also called me Annu and that became my screen name. I am grateful for all that I have received as Annu Kapoor. I have always given my best. Waise, Anil ji se mera koi milna julna nahi hai."
In the same conversation, Annu was also asked if he ever considered quitting acting. To this, the actor promptly answered that since he was a zero, he didn't have the choice to leave his acting career. He mentioned that beggars cannot be choosers and explained that he didn't think of doing so since he has a wife and three kids to take care of. However, he added that acting was neither his passion nor his hobby.

Coming to his personal life, Annu Kapoor tied the knot to his first wife, Anupama Patel in 1992. However, soon they parted ways and got divorced in 1993. Afterwards, Annu got hitched to a Bengali actress, Arunita Mukherjee in 1995 and was blessed with a daughter, Aradhita. Annu again started coming in contact with his first wife at that time, and the duo gave love a second chance. Soon, they fell for each other. On the other hand, after learning about Annu and Anupama's new development, Arunita decided to part ways with him, and they got divorced in 2005. Following this, Annu married Anupama again in 2008 and was blessed with three sons, Iwam, Mahir and Kawan.
