No matter how old we get, our parents will always remain an integral part of our being. When we were young and silly, we always wanted to grow old and be like our parents. We thought that they are the luckiest people as they don't have to get up early and go to schools. But when we grow up, we realise that life was better when we used to wear uniforms and our life revolved around study and play. And Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan also shared a beautiful relationship with his parents, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. We all know that Amitabh Bachchan's name speaks history and he is known as one of the strongest pillars of Indian cinema, thanks to his impeccable acting skills. But not many know that it was his mother, Teji Bachchan, who had introduced him to the creative world of cinema, arts and theatre. In one of his blogs, the actor had revealed how his mother had made him enter the world of theatre and ballroom dancing. On the other hand, Amitabh ji's father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan had made his name in the Hindi literature with his poems.
On January 24, 2021, Amitabh ji took a journey down the memory lane and remembered his late parents, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan on their wedding anniversary. Amitabh ji penned a blog post for his parents, which can be read as "Past the midnight of the 23rd and the 24th has begun .. the Wedding Anniversary of Ma and Babuji. 24th January 1942 .. a marriage that broke barriers, systems created the acceptance of the name Bachchan, beyond caste and creed .. and brought me into this wide world." Earlier, in a throwback interview with the IANS, Amitabh ji had shared that he has no legacy to take and it is his father's legacy that he is interested in. He had said, "It is coming on to 50 years in public life... That is as far as I am personally concerned. But I have been in public life from the day I was born. I was always the son of Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan, eminent poet, litterateur, having public presence far greater than mine. I have no legacy. My father's legacy is what I am interested in, and I shall try always to further it."
We remember once in a blog post, Amitabh ji had revealed how he had gotten the 'Bachchan' surname, "Babuji was born in a Kayasth home and a Srivastav. But his temperament was always against the ailment of caste, so his nome de plume, his ‘takhallus’, his pen name he designed as ‘BACHCHAN’. Poets and writers of great eminence often designed their names with a nom de plume. So ‘Bachchan’ became my father’s pen name, his poetic nom de plume, but it lent credence of its concept later when I was born, on being admitted to my first School, and being asked by the teachers what surname of this boy was to be filled in the admission form my Mother and father had a quick discussion and it was decided that ‘Bachchan’ would be the family surname."
