Many viewers questioned why Zaid continued to stand by Kushal despite his derogatory remarks about Gauahar Khan. But now, the choreographer has finally shared his side of the story. At the same time, he revealed how he confronted Kushal off-camera.
Zaid Darbar recently sat down for a conversation with HT City and reflected on his journey at Alliance. He explained that he was clear from day one that he wanted to remain his authentic self on the show. According to him, he never wanted to make a separate "game personality". Instead, he decided to play with the same honesty that he has in real life.
He also discussed his bond with Kushal Tandon. Many fans were keen to see how Zaid would react to being with his wife, Gauahar's ex, Kushal, on the show. In fact, the choreographer admitted that many contestants approached him with warnings and comments about the actor.
However, despite the constant attempts to change his views, he was unable to dislike Kushal. Zaid also recalled a discussion that he had with Sohail Khan about the same. The choreographer explained that he was often frustrated by his inability to hate Kushal, even though he wanted to at times. In turn, Sohail jokingly told him that he had "a mother's heart".
Zaid also mentioned that he could see how some contestants tried to deliberately create a distance between him and Kushal. But this only made him more cautious. He tried his best not to blindly believe others.
At the same time, Zaid was also asked about the controversy in which Kushal made derogatory remarks about Gauahar on the show. For those unaware, at one point in the show, Kushal told Zaid, "Tujhe saari meri cheezein pasand aati hai." Several fans were angry about it and questioned Zaid's inaction.
However, the choreographer clarified that he had discussed the issue with Kushal. But the conversation may not have been shown in the final edit. According to Zaid, his fellow contestant Vanshaj had informed him of the comment. In turn, he went directly to Kushal.
Yet instead of reacting in anger, Zaid chose a calm, respectful approach. He explained that he thinks people understand some things better through a peaceful conversation. At the same time, he wanted to make Kushal realise how hurtful his comments were.
Zaid revealed that Kushal listened to his concerns and eventually apologised for it. According to him, the actor also expressed respect for his family and clarified that he had no negative intention. Therefore, the apology enabled them to solve the issue and move forward. In Zaid's words:
"Maine baat bhi ki aur Kushal bahut achi tareeke se samjha bhi aur mujhe bola bhi ki idhar aa. Camera ke paas hum do khade the. Kushal even apologised and said, 'I'm sorry. Zaid ki family ko main bahut respect karta hoon, aisa humara kuch thought process tha hi nahi'."
Zaid Darbar and Gauahar Khan's love story started during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. They first met when the choreographer noticed the actress at a grocery store. In turn, he directly texted her on social media. Soon, the conversations turned into a whirlwind romance. After a few weeks, Zaid directly asked Gauahar if she would marry him.
Eventually, the couple tied the knot in a private nikah ceremony on December 25, 2020. Despite getting trolled over their age gap of six years and dealing with a miscarriage, the couple is going strong. They also welcomed two sons and prefer to live a private life.
