Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder turned one of the most wanted fugitives in the US, has been arrested in Mexico. Here's everything you might want to know about his wife.
Former Canadian Olympic snowboarder, Ryan Wedding's arrest in Mexico on January 23, 2026, has once again brought him back into global attention. The 44-year-old was once admired for his sports, but now he has become another name on the list of criminals with serious federal allegations.
While the US authorities are preparing him to move back to the states for trial, it has also brought back the spotlight on a woman, who has long been identified as his wife, Miryam Andrea Castillo Moreno. According to the official records, she has also been placed at the centre of Ryan's investigation.
Ryan Wedding's estranged wife, Miryan Andrea Castillo Moreno, 37, is described in federal documents as an entrepreneur. She has Iranian roots and hails from British Columbia. According to reports, her relationship with Ryan goes back to 2011 when the duo tied the knot. Interestingly, the Olympic snowboarder tied the knot in the middle of serving a prison charge in Texas for smuggling-related charges.
Despite Ryan Wedding's legal cases and investigation, she managed to stay out of the spotlight. However, in November 2025, the US Treasury Department sanctioned her and mentioned her name as the "financial backbone" of Wedding's alleged operations. Simultaneously, she was accused of helping her husband move large sums of money through his network and of coordinating behind the scenes.
According to recent media coverage quoting sources, she stated that she does not want to be associated with "these" people. In turn, some outlets now refer to her as his estranged or former wife. Still, until late 2025, official US documents continued to list Ryan Wedding's spouse, creating confusion about their current legal status.
According to the US Department of the Treasury, Ryan Wedding has also been linked to a Colombian national, Daniela Alejandra Acuna Macias. According to the authorities, she had been introduced to him through contacts in Mexico. Eventually, they became closely associated with his lifestyle during his stay there. According to federal reports, she managed large sums of money on his behalf, knowing they were tied to illegal activities. She allegedly lived a lavish lifestyle and helped him gather information about rivals. Consequently, she was also sanctioned by the US Treasury Department in late 2025.
Ryan Wedding once represented Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, competing in the parallel giant slalom snowboarding event. But his life took a dramatic turn after his athletic career ended. He was first convicted in 2009 for involvement in cocaine distribution. Subsequently, he served 48 months in prison. After his release in 2011, authorities alleged that he built a large transnational illegal network operating between Colombia, Mexico, the US, and Canada. Therefore, US officials compared the scale of his operations to those of some of the most notorious criminals in history.
During the months leading to his arrest, law enforcement agencies seized over USD 53 million in luxury assets linked to him. It included rare motorcycles and high-value cars. In fact, the FBI officials have stated that they had kept a USD 15 million reward for his capture.
