While the couple has not publicly shared details of their wedding, Rippey's social media indicates they have been married since at least 2017. She referred to him as "my darling husband" in an August 2017 post, confirming that the two were already married by that time.

Based on what's publicly available about Ryan Gibney, he is a corporate executive currently serving as the Group Vice President at Fullsteam, a software and payments technology company headquartered in Auburn, Alabama.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Gibney has spent much of his career in the software and technology industry, holding leadership roles at companies including Salesforce, Twilio, Tiatros, and several other enterprise software firms before joining Fullsteam. Unlike his wife, Gibney maintains a relatively low public profile and has largely stayed away from political headlines.

Before marrying Gibney, Rippey was married to Alex Tourk, one of Gavin Newsom's closest political advisers and campaign managers. The affair occurred between 2005 and 2006, when Newsom was serving as mayor of San Francisco, and Rippey worked as his appointments secretary. At the time, Newsom was single, while Rippey was married to Tourk, with whom she shares a son.
In her Vanity Fair essay, Rippey revealed that she entered rehab in May 2006 after struggling with alcoholism and cocaine addiction. In the essay, titled "How I Blew Up—Then Rebuilt—My Life," she admitted that her actions had forever changed her and Tourk's lives. She wrote:
"Nearly everyone seemed to know except the one person who most needed to know: my husband. I had been sleeping with his boss, who was also mine, and the mayor of San Francisco. I had believed that getting sober would put my life back together."
The former aide said she ended the relationship before leaving City Hall and later confessed the affair to Tourk in an email on January 13, 2007, after which he temporarily moved out. Rippey says she and Tourk have since rebuilt their relationship as co-parents.
In her first-person tell-all essay, Ruby Rippey reflected on the affair scandal and its lasting impact on her life. In the piece, she describes years of addiction, the pressures of working in City Hall, and the imbalance of power between herself and Newsom, while also taking responsibility for her own actions.
The essay also challenges parts of Newsom's account in his memoir, particularly his claim that he was the one who informed Alex Tourk about the affair. Rippey says she had already confessed to her husband before Tourk confronted Newsom. A spokesperson for Newsom told The New York Times that the governor publicly apologized for his conduct years ago and has nothing further to add.
Now 20 years sober, Rippey has rebuilt her life, remarried, and focused on raising her son while in a cooperative dynamic with her ex.
