Yes, the number on Eleven's missing poster in 'Stranger Things 5' actually connects to the Hawkins Police. Here are some more Easter eggs that will make you feel like you're part of the story!
“If you never try, you never know.” That’s exactly what curious Stranger Things fans have proved by letting their intrusive thoughts win. If you’re a die-hard fan of the series, you’ve probably wondered how cool it would be to actually connect to Dustin through the Cerebro he built to reach Suzie, order a pizza from Surfer Boy Pizza, or even dial the Hawkins Police Department yourself. Well, the makers have made sure you get that.
After nine long years, the beloved Stranger Things has finally come to an end, and fans who grew up alongside the characters aren’t quite ready to let go. Well, if you, too, are having withdrawal symptoms already, here are some Easter eggs to help you calm those blues, starting with the very real Hawkins Police number!
During the Season 5 premiere, which opens with Hawkins on the brink of collapse and 'Eleven' (Millie Bobby Brown) once again missing, eagle-eyed viewers noticed the poster's details closely. Printed beneath El's photo is a phone number from the Indiana area: 765-303-2020. Well, curiosity got the best of some fans, only to hear something that sent chills down their spines.
When you dial the number, you will be connected to a pre-recorded message straight from the 'Hawkins Police Department', warning callers that the town is under lockdown following a 7.4-magnitude earthquake (the official cover story for the Upside Down rifts that tore through the town in the Season 4 finale).
The message goes on to say that the Hawkins Emergency Task Force is actively searching for missing persons, especially one 'Jane Hopper' (Eleven's legal name), who remains a priority. Finally, it also urges the callers, aka the "responsible citizens of Hawkins", to assist in the search. Here's what you will hear if you dial the number:
“Thank you for contacting the Hawkins Police Department. Due to the recent 7.4 magnitude earthquake, Hawkins is currently under lockdown to ensure the safety of our residents. The Hawkins Emergency Task Force is working with the Hawkins PD to track down a missing person, to which Jane Hopper is the priority. We urge you, as a responsible citizen of Hawkins, to assist us in our search to locate her."
Ever since social media users discovered this Easter egg, the trend has taken the internet by storm, with fans loving every bit of the experience; Jane Hopper's missing angle was just the perfect dash of spice it needed. Taking to X, one fan wrote:
"Called that Hawkins number and got the lockdown voicemail — 'Jane Hopper priority' had me shouting at my phone like Hopper. Netflix is blurring the lines between reality and the Upside Down. Who's next? Don't overlook this Easter egg."
Many praised the detail as proof that the creators are still finding new ways to reward longtime viewers. For some background, when Season 5 came out around 18 months after the huge cliffhanger from Season 4, the story opened with a military quarantine and the truth about Vecna's uprising hidden behind a well-fabricated "disaster", i.e., an earthquake. The missing poster soon appears in the halls of Hawkins High School during Episode 1, subtly hinting that El is missing.
And now, the working phone number that's woven directly into that same storyline has brilliantly elevated the viewers' experience. Fans are freaking out, and in a good way! As one user rightfully put it, “That’s how you make a fictional town feel alive.”
Well, here's the fun part: the Hawkins Police line isn't the only interactive treat that's been there all along. Curious fans have confirmed that several other Stranger Things phone numbers also work. Want to contact the paranoid former journalist turned private investigator, Murray Bauman? Try dialling 618-625-8313, but be prepared for his brutal sign-off:
“Hang up and never call here again! You are a parasite!”
Remember the long-haired stoner-surfer Argyle's California-based Surfer Boy Pizza from Season 4? Well, dial 805-457-4992 (aka 805-45-PIZZA) for a savoury surprise. Moreover, the number for the NINA Project, 202-968-6161, is also there to spook fans some more.
And the fun doesn't stop there! When Season 3 came out, Netflix had done a fun partnership with Baskin-Robbins to bring the fictional Scoops Ahoy from Hawkins' Starcourt Mall to life. Fans uncovered hidden Morse code in select Baskin-Robbins items and ads. Decoding it revealed a phone number, 1-888-273-9152.
When the number was dialled, the caller was asked for a password, which unlocked a mystery augmented reality game. The ice cream brand's senior consumer engagement director, David Nagel, had explained the campaign:
“Netflix and the Duffer Brothers [co-creators] went to great pains to bring an 80s authenticity to the show, and we’ve worked tirelessly over the last 12-plus months to extend that authenticity into our own work so super fans will feel like this is all a real-world extension of their favorite show.”
As Stranger Things 5 ended on New Year's Eve 2025, it's clear that the Duffer Brothers and Netflix aren't letting you forget the show anytime soon. Have you tried dialling any of these numbers?
