'The Boys' Season 5 Episode 4's trailer hints that 'Butcher' and 'Hughie' might be headed for an explosive clash towards the end of Season 5.
The Boys Season 5 is clearly moving ahead towards a storm at the end. According to the newly released trailer for the upcoming episode 4, an internal war is brewing within the team. In fact, the one major thing that has held them together until now might be the exact reason they are separating. In short, things are about to get much worse.
As per the preview of The Boys Season 5's episode 4 titled Though the Heavens Fall, the show is set to witness a major turning point for the group, especially 'Billy Butcher' and 'Hughie Campbell'. The early reactions and trailer breakdowns suggest that the long-standing trust between the two much-loved characters is set to collapse. For all the previous seasons, viewers have seen 'Hughie' follow 'Butcher' on dangerous missions and morally grey decisions. But now, fans think that 'Butcher's increasing obsession with defeating 'Homeland' might take things too far.
Particularly, 'Butcher's approach to sacrifice anything or anyone that comes in the way is reaching a breaking point. So, 'Hughie' might not be a silent spectator this time. The teaser also suggests a high-stakes race for a powerful substance known as V-One, a form of Compound V in its original state. This substance could grant anyone immunity against the deadly supe-killing virus. At the same time, the Boys and 'Homelander' are both racing to secure it at a mysterious place known as Fort Harmony.
The search for the new powerful substance has added another layer of urgency to the complicated situation. Some reports suggest that 'Hughie' might also stand against the reckless use of viruses. Whereas 'Butcher' believes that it might be the only way to win. The difference in their opinions could further create friction between them, turning two allies into opponents at the worst possible time. Meanwhile, 'Homelander' himself seems more unstable than before after the recent incidents involving his son, 'Ryan', creating uncertainty and a threat.
The fifth season of The Boys has taken the show's characters into darker territory. The story begins in a world where 'Homelander' has strengthened his grip on power, creating an authoritarian-like environment. In turn, the resistance efforts have increased. Yet again, the differences in the group have weakened their fight. So, it will be important to see who wins at the end. There are eight episodes in the season. At the same time, the cast includes Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Daveed Diggs, David Padalecki, and Misha Collins, among others. The show began streaming on April 8, 2026, and the last episode airs on May 20, 2026.
Regarding the future, there will be no Season 6 of The Boys. Its showrunner, Eric Kripke, has confirmed that Season 5 will be the show's final season. According to multiple outlets, the decision is a part of a long-term plan to conclude the story on a high note rather than stretching it unnecessarily. It will also end the intense rivalry between 'Butcher' and 'Homelander'. However, the makers are set to expand the universe with spinoffs like Gen V and more projects that will further explore the same world.
