Saba, who is a jewellery designer, has largely stayed out of the limelight. In a recent interview, Saba opened up about why her brother, Saif, delayed his marriage to Bollywood actress Kareena. The couple has been married since October 2012. They completed 14 years of togetherness on October 16, 2026.
In a recent interaction with Siddharth Kannan, Saba Ali Khan revealed why her brother delayed his marriage to Kareena by one year. The jewellery designer shared that at the time, their father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, passed away. For the uninitiated, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, popularly known as Tiger Pataudi, who was a former captain of the Indian cricket team, took his last breath on September 22, 2011.
Saba mentioned that when Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi died, he was surrounded by his family, including his children and wife, Sharmila Tagore. She said that the moment would always make them tearful. She explained that, at that moment, when the former captain of the Indian cricket team was dying, she and her family members bonded very well and called it deep and meaningful.
Saba then went on to say that Saif waited for the right time to get married to Kareena. She shared that they missed their dad at Saif and Kareena’s wedding that took place a year later in 2012. When the host discussed Saif’s feelings at the time of his marriage to Kareena, Saba agreed and said it was definitely a kind of vacuum for the actor, as he missed his dad during that precious moment. She said:
"When Abba passed, we were all around him. We were together as a family when he was dying. It will always make us feel tearful. Bhai married after a year. We waited a year; we waited for the right time. And we missed him."
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s love story began when they were filming Tashan in 2007. They dated for nearly 5 years before tying the knot. For the unversed, the couple tied the knot on October 16, 2012. According to reports, Saif had to woo Kareena three times before she finally said 'yes.' During their appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show in October 2026, Kareena opened up about Saif's multiple attempts to convince her to marry him.
The Bollywood actress revealed that the proposals took place in three different locations: Mumbai, Greece, and Paris. Saif and Kareena made their first public appearance as a couple at good friend Manish Malhotra's show at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2009. The duo turned showstoppers and walked hand in hand on the ramp. After being in a relationship for a year, Saif Ali Khan decided to ink the name of Kareena on his hands.
Kareena and Saif’s wedding was a private affair. As per tradition, Sharmila Tagore passed on the family's wedding ensemble and royal jewellery to Kareena Kapoor, which was first worn by Begum Sajida Sultan of Bhopal at her own wedding in 1939. On the other hand, Saif donned a golden sherwani with white pyjamas.
After four years of marriage, on December 20, 2016, Saif and Kareena welcomed their first child, Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi. Later, on February 21, 2021, the couple completed their family by welcoming their second child, Jehangir Ali Khan, a.k.a. Jeh.
