Reports revealed that the blogger tried to cut himself while streaming on TikTok. This triggered a number of emergency calls from worried viewers who were left shocked and confused by his actions. Now, Perez's family is finally speaking out after the incident.
After the emergency calls made by fans who watched Perez Hilton’s livestream, the authorities performed a welfare check at his Miami home on August 4, 2026. Eventually, the blogger was taken to the hospital for treatment. With fans asking for an update on Perez's condition, his family and team decided to share a statement on his main website on August 5, 2026.
In the statement, they wrote that a lot of people are showing their concern for Perez. Revealing how grateful they are, his family added:
“Many of you have reached out with concern for Perez, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers.”
They went on to confirm that Perez is currently receiving medical care. Perez's family assured fans that they are focused on his well-being while also urging them to respect his privacy. The family added that they will share updates on his condition whenever they can. The statement continued:
“Our family’s focus right now is on his well-being. We kindly ask that you respect Perez’s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time. If and when we are able to share any updates, we will do so with everyone as soon as we can. Thank you for your compassion, understanding, and continued support.”
For the unversed, according to a dispatch audio obtained by media outlets, it was confirmed that the authorities had received reports of a “possible suicide” at 6:51 p.m. local time. About an hour later, at around 7:59 p.m., a police response could be heard for a “streamer known as Perez Hilton.”
When the audio at around 10:41 pm described a “suicide attempt,” the police requested assistance from fire services. Perez’s home was described as an “active police scene,” with authorities entering his home shortly after. The audio revealed that at around 11:30 p.m., responding units were on the way to a local hospital.
After Perez's hospitalization, the blogger’s TikTok page was deactivated. It was also banned for violating community guidelines about content featuring self-harm. Later, Attorney Bryan Freedman, a friend of Perez who had also represented him for 20 years, said in a statement:
“I, like many others, feel very concerned for Mario’s health, and I am trying to confirm that he is receiving the care that he needs to fully address the causes and conditions which led to this incident. It feels like a moment that deserves kindness and compassion.”
Perez, who had previously been living in Las Vegas, decided to move to Miami because of his family. This life change reportedly took an emotional toll on Perez. Sources told TMZ that Perez’s decision to move was primarily because of his mother, Teresita, who had family living in Miami. Reportedly, she was unhappy while staying in Vegas.
The sources further added that Perez had begun prioritizing his family more after his near-death experience, which took place just a few months before his alarming livestream in March 2026. At that time, he ended up in the hospital for 21 days when he continued taking flu medication on an empty stomach, leading to a gastric ulcer that perforated his stomach.
