As his death made headlines, a renewed interest in his personal life led people to the time when he spoke about experiencing paranormal activity in his LA home, which eventually led him to sell the property.
In his memoir, Making It So, Patrick Stewart described his haunted Los Angeles home, which left him freaked out. After his second season as ‘Picard’, Stewart bought a home in Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood where "weird things started happening” to him. He wrote that one day, while returning home from work, Stewart was hit by a strong smell of roasting.
Patrick was confused because no one was at his home. He got into the kitchen and started investigating and realised that "the stove was not even turned on, and the oven was cold and empty”. Stewart also wrote about hearing mysterious voices and footsteps on the stairs, as if someone were going up and down.
But the strangest thing happened when Stewart’s son, Daniel, visited him and was ‘freaked out’ by a strange occurrence. Recalling the same, he penned:
“When I asked him what was wrong, he led me down into the living room, where the floor was scattered with books that had obviously come from the shelves lining the wall. Dan told me he had been watching TV when the books suddenly flew across the room, as if thrown with great force. The incident scared him so badly that he left the house and returned only when he knew I would soon be home.”
After strange episodes in his LA home, Patrick decided to move out and rented a home in Silver Lake. Patrick wrote that after moving, he felt much safer. After he rented out his home, the tenant family's mother called him one day about a washer-dryer problem. After a pleasant chat, she asked, ‘By the way, you never told us about the other things that came with this house.’
At that moment, Patrick shared his history with the house and how he witnessed paranormal activity there. After Patrick spoke, the tenant said her daughter experienced even more eerie things in the house. She revealed that her daughter saw a shadowy male figure standing in the hall at the foot of the stairs. Patrick was relieved he wasn't imagining things and that the house was, in fact, haunted.
Patrick also revealed in his memoir that he once ran into the couple, who sold him the home without warning, and saw their expressions change the moment they saw him. Elaborating on the same, he shared:
“When I went over to greet them, they were clearly uncomfortable and beat a retreat from me almost immediately. I got the distinct impression that they had something to hide."
