Sunny Ozell is an American singer-songwriter whose music blends jazz, blues, soul, and Americana. According to Patrick, he had never met anyone like Sunny, whom he described as someone extremely informed, smart, and also the one who just never forgets anything.
As for their love story, it was straight out of a rom-com. She was working as a waitress, and he was there for an acting job; it all worked out, and they ended up marrying and spending their lives together. Patrick and Sunny reportedly met in 2008 at a pizzeria, Franny's, where she was working as a waitress.
Patrick was there for a production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth. The actor shared what happened at the pizzeria in a 2022 interview with PEOPLE. According to him, Sunny wanted to see Macbeth, in which he performed; however, as the production tickets were sold out, she could not be there.
The duo's first meeting and the conversation left an impression on Patrick, who gave Sunny his phone number. After his performance in Macbeth, the couple reconnected backstage and went out to dinner. The pair dated for nearly five years, before marrying in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, in 2013. The wedding was officiated by Patrick's X-Men co-star, Ian McKellen, and it was attended by 100 guests.
Patrick and Sunny later learned that their Lake Tahoe wedding wasn't legally binding because McKellen's credentials were valid only in California. So, the couple held a legal ceremony at a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles, again officiated by McKellen. The couple had been married for the last 13 years. Sunny's last post was from 2024, when he and Patrick were seen at an exhibition.
