Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleParis Hilton is not new to controversy, but this time an unexpected backlash over Halloween costumes has left the internet divided. The issue began when Paris revealed that she dressed up her family in Beauty and the Beast-themed Halloween costumes. In turn, some social media users called her out for stealing the spotlight from her children. However, the businesswoman defended her choice and revealed her young daughter had picked her own character.
Paris Hilton, 45, has recently been at the receiving end of criticism after she shared pictures of her family dressed as characters from the Disney classic. She dressed up as 'Princess Belle', while her husband, Carter Reum, dressed up as 'Beast.' At the same time, their three-year-old son, Phoenix, became 'Lumière,' a talking candelabra, and their two-year-old daughter, London, became the little teacup 'Chip.'
However, rather than praising the family, many social media users questioned Paris's decision to play the lead 'Belle'. They felt she should have let her children take the lead. Some also accused her of making herself the center of attention. One critic even called her decision "next level narcissistic."
Many argued that the children should have been the stars of their own Halloween pictures. However, many fans defended her family's outfit and called it adorable. They argued against the idea that mothers should not dress up as princesses. Eventually, Paris directly addressed the criticism in the comments section on her Instagram post and wrote:
"Beauty and the Beast is one of their favorite movies. London said she wanted to dress up as Chip. She said it was her favorite character in the movie."
The American socialite clarified that the costumes were based on her children's preferences. It suggested that she did not decide their characters to take away their attention but had let them enjoy becoming the characters they love.
When some internet users continued to question Paris' decision, others defended her right to enjoy Halloween with her family. It also started a bigger debate about how parents should dress up with their young children. Some supporters also argued that a coordinated family costume doesn't need to place the children above everyone else.
For those who don't know, Paris was already involved in another controversy when the issue of Halloween costumes came up. According to journalist Jonathan Van Meter, the author of Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future, he had planned to interview Paris while studying Kim's biography. But according to Van, Paris' interview was canceled reportedly 17 times over roughly four months despite their prior arrangements.
Van also claimed that Kim was upset by the situation and brought up an old irritation between the two women. However, Paris has not publicly confirmed a conflict with Kim. For those who don't know, Paris and Kim have been childhood friends. In fact, Paris famously employed Kim as an assistant in the early 2000s before the latter became a global celebrity herself.
Apart from the controversies, Paris Hilton has built a family with Carter Reum. He is a venture capitalist, and they tied the knot in November 2021. The couple welcomed both their children, Phoenix and London, via surrogate. Paris has often spoken openly about her decision to use surrogacy, her personal experiences, and fears over her decision.
Coming from a wealthy family, Paris has also continued to manage her business ventures, entertainment career, and advocacy work with motherhood. However, the Halloween costumes controversy has once again brought her family under public criticism.
