Bollywood actress, Neetu Kapoor opened up about getting into drinking after the death of her husband, Rishi Kapoor.
Neetu Kapoor has been through a lot since her husband and veteran actor, Rishi Kapoor, died after being diagnosed with cancer in 2020. Recently, Soha Ali Khan invited Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni on her podcast. The mother-daughter duo opened up a lot of things, but the most shocking one was when Neetu Kapoor revealed that she slipped into drinking after the passing of Rishi Kapoor.
Neetu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor spent 40 glorious years full of ups and downs together. However, in 2020, the Kapoors' world turned upside down with Rishi Kapoor's passing. Recently, in an interview with Soha Ali Khan, Neetu revealed that after Rishi Kapoor's passing, she was in a terrible state. She couldn't sleep, and despite taking therapy, she found no resolution.
Neetu added that after the passing of Rishi, she got into drinking, and she slipped into the habit of drinking to sleep at night. However, soon she realised that it was a problem and she should stop; that's when she sought help from a gynaecologist. She shared:
"When he passed away, for a month or maybe 2-3 months, I could not sleep and I got into drinking. I used to start drinking and then I could not sleep without drinking. I was scared of being inside the house. I just wanted to numb my head and go to sleep. I didn’t like myself."
Neetu Kapoor revealed that she called her doctor to seek help as she has always been health-conscious and liked exercising. So that's when her doctor came up with a plan that she should get an injectable sedative every night. Her doctor would inject her and be with her till the time she fell asleep. After 10 days, she told her doctor to stop as she felt better. She shared:
"I called my doctor and I said, ‘This is what is going on with me. I need help. I don’t like it. I am not made like that. I am so health-conscious. I like my exercise. So my doctor would come, she would inject me and put me to sleep and sit there till the time I had not gone to sleep."
No wedding is perfect, and neither was Neetu Kapoor's and Rishi Kapoor's. The late veteran actor had a habit of drinking, and it added to marital fights. The relationship with alcohol also affected his relationship with his son, Ranbir Kapoor. She revealed that when Rishi Kapoor lost his cool, their son, Ranbir Kapoor, came in between a couple of times. However, the next day, Rishi Kapoor would not remember anything, and Ranbir would get tensed about how he would confront his father, who just stared back at him without remembering anything. Ranbir Kapoor shared his feelings in Rishi Kapoor's memoir, Khullam Khulla, and wrote:
"Every day I would wonder what mood or condition he would turn up in at night, dreading the thought of him being drunk and picking a fight with my mother. For a very long time I remained terrified of my father, and I am convinced that this fear sprang from those early drunken scenes. Although I was just a little boy then, I made a promise to myself that, when I grew up, I would never drink and frighten my kids like that."
