Some of his notable works include the hit Raaz series (Raaz, Raaz 3, Raaz Reboot), Shaapit, and Creature, among others. However, he is currently making headlines not for his films but rather for being arrested by the Rajasthan police. Along with the filmmaker, his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, as well as five others, were arrested on December 7, 2025, in Mumbai in connection with an alleged Rs. 30 crore fraud case.
The arrests were made after a thorough police investigation following an FIR filed by Dr Murdia, an IVF specialist, on November 17, 2025. In his complaint, he accused Vikram and his associates of cheating him out of a large sum of money by promising high-return film investments that they failed to deliver. While the arrest only happened recently, Vikram and Shwetambari had been called for questioning earlier in the month, during which they both denied the allegations. Before Shwetambari's marriage to renowned filmmaker, Vikram Bhatt, she was leading a life away from the limelight as an Indian art curator. While not much is known about her background, one thing is for sure: in her professional journey, she has a deep connection to contemporary art, curation, and other gallery-based creative expression. Coming to her marriage to Vikram, it shot her into the public spotlight immediately. The duo reportedly tied the knot 5 years ago, in September 2020. As most people are aware, this was when the world was under lockdown owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. This led them to conduct their wedding privately with only close family in attendance. It was only a year after their marriage that they both took to social media to publicly announce their wedding.
According to multiple reports, Shwetambari and Vikram's relationship developed from their business collaboration. Apparently, the Raaz director collaborated on a poetry project for one of Shwetambari's art exhibitions. The two are known to have maintained a good relationship since their marriage, largely because they share a creative background. However, a lesser-known fact about Shwetambari is that she is a mother to two sons from her previous marriage. Similarly, Vikram too has a daughter from his last marriage.
Before Vikram and his wife's arrest, two people had already been arrested in the Rs. 30 crore fraud case earlier. A total of eight people, including the filmmaker and Shwetambari, are accused in the case. According to reports, Vikram allegedly persuaded Dr Ajay Murdia, the founder of Indira Group of Companies, to invest around Rs. 30 crore in various film projects, including a biopic on Dr Murdia’s late wife. Giving more insight into the case, an official stated:
"Murdia, owner of Indira IVF Hospital, wanted to make a biopic on his late wife. He has alleged that he was promised earnings of Rs 200 crore. But nothing materialised, after which Murdia approached Bhopalpura police station in Udaipur, where an FIR was registered for cheating and other offences."
According to the couple's lawyers, Rakesh Singh and Sanjay Singh, Vikram and his wife were high-handedly arrested by the Rajasthan police without proper permission. They further claimed that the duo was allegedly threatened and forced to sign a document without specifying a date and time. Now, it is to be seen what becomes of the case, including Vikram and Shwetambari, as it is still an ongoing investigation.
