Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleThe legendary director Ridley Scott is heading back into the world of science fiction with his latest film, The Dog Stars. The film is reportedly based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel of the same name and boasts a star-studded cast led by Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Guy Pearce, and Margaret Qualley.
The Dog Stars marks Ridley Scott’s first project since his 2024 action sequel Gladiator 2. While fans wait to see the new film in cinemas on August 28, 2026, here's everything we know about Ridley's wife, Giannina Facio.
According to reports, Ridley Scott's wife, Giannina Facio, was born on September 10, 1955, in San José. Her parents were Costa Rica’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs, the late Gonzalo Facio, and his second wife, Ana Franco Calzia. Giannina has two sisters, Ana Catalina and Carla Facio, along with three half-siblings, Sandra, Alda, and Romulo Facio.
Just like her husband, Giannina has also worked in the entertainment industry. She got her start in the ‘80s and rose to fame when she appeared in projects like Antonello Grimaldi’s Il Cielo è Sempre Più Blu, better known in English as Bits and Pieces, Enrico Oldoini’s Vacanze di Natale ‘90, and Anna Carlucci’s Torta di Mele and Nessuno mi Crede.
However, it was Giannina’s role in the Italia 1 comedy show Emilio that made her a household name in Italy. Interestingly, while Giannina had a successful acting career, she said that she “absolutely hated” it and “never liked being on that side of the camera.”
Most recently, Giannina co-produced House of Gucci, a passion project for her that spanned over two decades. At the time, she claimed that her husband, Ridley, almost didn't take on the film for a multitude of reasons, like the script not being right. When the movie faced criticism from the Gucci family, she said:
“I don't think they're that dismayed. There's just one or two [family members] that keep coming up because they wanted to be part of our movie as consultants.”
Aside from her work in the entertainment industry, Giannina Facio made headlines in 1984 when she was caught trying to leave Spain while carrying 343,000 pesetas (the currency of Spain at the time) with her in a briefcase. As per reports, the maximum amount that could be taken outside the country back then was 50,000 pesetas. After Giannina was detained by Civil Guard officers at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, not much was revealed about why she was carrying the huge amount in the first place.
Speaking of her relationship with Ridley Scott, the couple began dating in 2000. They tied the knot 15 years later, in June 2015. Since then, Giannina has appeared in many of her husband’s works and also co-produced Tristan & Isolde and Matchstick Men.
Giannina and Ridley reportedly share an age difference of 18 years. Before getting together with Ridley, the actress was linked to Philippe Junot, who was married to Princess Caroline of Monaco. At the time, the media speculated that Giannina might have been the reason that the royal couple eventually got divorced.
Ridley Scott revealed that it was Mark L. Smith’s screenplay of The Dog Stars that played a significant part in him saying yes to the film. The veteran director had remained away from major science-fiction films for nearly a decade. Having previously directed Alien, Blade Runner, and The Martian, Ridley wanted his new film to stand apart from the familiar post-apocalyptic formula. During the film’s London premiere, he said:
“There have been so many zombie movies. There are no zombies in this.”
