Elana Meyers Taylor secured her first gold medal with the support of her husband, Nic Taylor, amid the challenges of parenting hearing-impaired children.
American bobsledder, Elana Meyers Taylor registered a historic storybook victory at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics on February 16, 2026. The 41-year-old finally took home her first Olympic gold medal, winning the women's monobob. This was her sixth career Olympic medal, tying her with speed skater, Bonnie Blair for the most Winter Olympic medals won by an American woman. Interestingly, she is married to a fellow bobsledder, which explains their understanding of each other's personal as well as professional commitments. Here's everything we know about her better half, Nic Taylor.
Nic Taylor is a professional bobsledder, coach, and chiropractor. He has been a fixture in the U.S. bobsled scene as both an athlete and a member of his wife's coaching team. Nic was originally a track athlete at Cal State Northridge, and later transitioned to bobsled in 2011. He served as an alternate for Team USA at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. In November 2014, he and Elana Meyers Taylor made history as part of the first mixed-gender four-person bobsled team to compete in an international event.
Nic's current profession is reported to be a chiropractic doctor and a strength and conditioning coach. He currently works for the Sacramento Kings (NBA). Besides his own career, he is also focused on enhancing his wife, Elana's professional development. He designs her training programs and has been credited as a key contributor to her continued success, even in her 40s. Despite their demanding careers, they make time to relax and spend quality family time with their kids.
Nic Taylor and Elana Meyers Taylor met in 2011 after a chance phone call, as reported by USA Today. At that time, Nic was a track coach transitioning into bobsledding. After losing some entry paperwork, he called the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation for help. Elana, who was interning for the federation at the time, answered the phone, and the conversation lasted longer than it should have. Despite never having met or seen what the other looked like, the two ended up talking for the rest of the day. Nic later remarked that he knew he wanted to marry her from that very first conversation.
Nic and Elana officially met in person two days after he arrived at the Olympic training centre in Lake Placid, New York. Sparks flew immediately and they began dating on the same day. They kept seeing each other by attending a weekly Bible study held near the Olympic Training Centre, and also went on occasional dates. Notably, the duo comes from very different backgrounds. Nic is reported to be African-American, while Elana is of Jamaican, Panamanian, and Italian descent. Despite their differences, they felt connected and soon decided to spend the rest of their lives together.
Nic proposed to Elana on January 26, 2013, while she was standing on the medal podium after winning silver at the World Championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The couple tied the knot the next year, on April 24, 2014. Their wedding was a unique, bobsled-themed ceremony that celebrated the sport that brought them together. The ceremony featured numerous bobsledding references, including nutrition-themed vows and playful innuendos about bobsled training. Among the attendees was Elana's close friend and fellow bobsledder, Kaillie Humphries. Notably, Kaillie and Elana had locked horns just two months before the latter's wedding, at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, showcasing their off-track camaraderie.
Eight years after marriage, Elana and Nic became parents, welcoming their first child, a son, Nicholas 'Nico' Taylor, on February 22, 2020. The little one was born three weeks early via an emergency C-section after nearly two days of labour. He spent his first eight days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and was diagnosed with Down syndrome and bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Two years after Nico's birth, his parents brought home his baby brother, Noah, in 2022. Tragically, Noah was also born deaf due to a mutation unrelated to Down syndrome.
Elana and Nic travel with their sons during the six-month bobsled season. They use American Sign Language and cochlear implants to communicate with their kids. Additionally, Elana uses her social media to advocate for mothers in elite sports and children with disabilities. She shared her experience and motivates others to keep going despite the challenges life throws at them.
Elana Meyers Taylor has been vocal about the physical and logistical challenges of returning to elite competition following childbirth. After Noah's birth, she initially planned to retire but later decided to return for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics. On February 16, 2026, she won her first Olympic gold medal in the women's monobob at 41. She became the oldest woman to win an Olympic bobsled medal, showcasing that age is just a number and willpower is all that matters. Elana had been able to achieve the feat with the love and support of her husband, Nic.
