David Kendall recently passed away on May 2, 2026, at the age of 68. The late producer and director was associated with the entertainment industry since 1985. He wrote several TV shows along with films such as Revenge of the Bridesmaids. He was mostly known as the writer of the famous ABC sitcom, Boy Meets World. Notably, news of his demise was announced via the show’s official Instagram handle.

David Kendall was reportedly a resident of Santa Monica for a long time

According to IMDb, David Kendall was born in Philadelphia. His bio on the website also stated that he was staying with his wife and their three children in Santa Monica. Notably, he enrolled at Wesleyan University in Connecticut for his higher studies. Back in 1992, David also decided to give his work documents and personal papers from his career to the university. Apart from that, Kendall was planning to donate everything related to his writing work. Curator of the institute’s cinema archives, Jeannie Basinger, said at that time:

“So far, he has sent us about 70 boxes. Although we haven’t had a chance yet to inventory the contents, I assume most of them contain papers and scripts from the show. On the other hand, you never know, On the other hand, you never know. He may have sent along a pair of his old tennis shoes.”

David Kendall started his career as a writer during the ‘80s

According to the Los Angeles Times, David Kendall’s journey began as the director of the comedy film Luggage of the Gods! Released in 1983, Kendall was also a writer of the film, which featured Mark Stolzenberg, Gabriel Barre, Gwen Ellison, and Martin Haber in the lead roles. The New York Times stated that the movie was made on a very controlled budget. Two years after the release of the film, David Kendall joined the ABC show, Growing Pains. He was reportedly a co-executive producer of the series and was heavily involved with the show between 1988 and 1991.

Apart from working on the TV show, David Kendall was a writer of The Growing Pains Movie with Michael Sullivan. The movie was released in 2000. He was also a writer of the teen comedy film, The New Guy, which was moderately successful. Another movie in his credits as a writer was the ABC Family film, Revenge of the Bridesmaids, released in 2010.

David gained recognition for his work on Boy Meets World. Kendall was an executive producer of the show, and he reportedly had an issue with the title. Back in 2023, he claimed in an interview on the podcast, Pod Meets World, that he was considering changing it to Cory’s World. In 2005, David directed another comedy film, Dirty Deeds, which had Milo Ventimiglia, Lacey Chabert, and many others in the lead. Other shows that he wrote in his career include iCarly, Hannah Montana, Imagination Movers, Big Time Rush, Victorious, and more.
