For those unaware, he was accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot. After a highly publicized trial, a Los Angeles federal jury finally declared Lil Durk not guilty. Now, the rapper's father revealed how he is feeling after the verdict.
Lil Durk's verdict was read out on Friday, September 11, 2026, leaving the rapper in tears. Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was found not guilty of conspiracy, stalking resulting in death, and murder-for-hire charges related to a 2022 shooting incident.
Prosecutors had alleged that Lil Durk was the man behind orchestrating a hit on a rival rapper named Quando Rondo as revenge for murdering his friend, King Von, in 2020. While Quando had survived the targeted shooting, his cousin, Saviay'a “Lul Pub” Robinson, was killed.
Throughout the trial, Durk’s defense had maintained that the prosecutor’s case relied too much on cooperating witnesses. For the unversed, Flacka, OTF Jam, and OTF Vonni were seen taking the stand as witnesses during the trial. All three of them alleged that it was indeed Lil Durk who plotted and funded the murder-for-hire scheme that targeted Quando Rondo.
As per reports, the jury deliberated for three days before reaching the verdict. Just minutes after Lil Durk was found not guilty, the rapper's father, Big Durk, addressed the media outside the court in downtown Los Angeles. He stated that he was “bursting with joy” and had a hard time containing his happiness. Big Durk claimed that the favorable verdict had left their entire family on a “high.”
According to Big Durk, his son had always anticipated that the day would come when he would be found not guilty following his arrest in October 2024. And now that the day has arrived, the rapper's family fully intends to take this chance and celebrate grandly.
It is worth mentioning that many in the music industry supported Lil Durk while he was still caught up in the murder-for-hire trial. Kanye West was seen openly demonstrating his support by sitting alongside Durk’s family during the testimony. He also displayed a “Free Durk” shirt outside the courthouse.
In the early days of Lil Durk’s trial, his fellow rapper Machine Gun Kelly also appeared at the courthouse. Reports further revealed that on the day of the acquittal, the scene outside the courthouse had essentially turned into a media circus. A huge number of fans and tourists had crowded the block outside.
While Lil Durk’s not-guilty verdict has already been announced, as many had wished, the phrase “Free Durk” has taken on a more significant meaning than just promotion. The term that began as a simple demand has now brought Durk closer to freedom after spending two years in federal detention.
