Sydney Sweeney expressed her excitement over playing the role of Kim Novak in her biopic, Scandalous, a project which was announced back in 2024. Well, Sydney Sweeney made it to the headlines recently as Kim Novak had something to say about the Euphoria actress playing her role in Scandalous.
Scandalous will mark Colman Domingo's directional debut and will follow the real-life love story of Kim Novak and late musician Sammy Davis Jr. It was said that Sydney Sweeney would complete her work for Euphoria season 3 before focusing on Scandalous. However, ahead of the same, the movie has been hitting headlines with Kim Novak's recent comment, wherein she said that Sweeney is 'wrong to play her role'.
It was back in October 2025, when Sydney Sweeney sat for an interview with PEOPLE, wherein she revealed that while she hadn't met Kim Novak yet, she was very excited about the same. Sweeney further mentioned that Kim is an amazing actress, and for her to bring the latter to life is an honourable thing to do.
To mention, Sydney Sweeney grabbed a whole lot of attention with her role in another biopic last year. She did an amazing job while essaying boxer, Christy Martin, in the movie, Christy, and won hearts with her role. Sweeney said that Kim Novak's story is very relevant about how she managed her image, private life and dealt with Hollywood and the scrutiny around her. Sweeny further mentioned that she could relate to the same in several different ways. Sweeney could be quoted as saying:
"I think her story is still very relevant today in that she dealt with Hollywood and scrutiny with her relationships and her own private life and the control of her image. And I think that for me, I relate to it in a lot of different ways.”
In a recent interview with The Times of London, Kim Novak said that she would have never approved the movie Scandalous, starring Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson. Kim said that she is not pleased with Sydney playing her role while adding that the actress 'sticks out so much above the waist'. Scandalous will show the real-life romance between Kim Novak and Sammy Davis Jr.
Novak and Sammy met on the set of The Steve Allen Show, and they continued to be in touch and in close proximity in the following years, and reportedly met regularly. Reportedly, Davis would meet Novak on the set of Vertigo. The couple also reportedly spent holidays together. The couple's relationship became a matter of public knowledge as a Chicago columnist revealed a story on Novak and David's relationship and connection, sharing that the duo could marry. Novak denied the claims, and following this, Davis got married to Loray White, which lasted for one year.
On the other hand, Kim got married to Richard Johnson and got divorced after a year. Kim Novak then married Robert Malloy, and they were together until the latter passed away in 2020. Kim Novak's point of worry comes from the fact that she thinks that the movie will focus on the se*ual relationship between them, while in real life their romance was based on them having a lot in common. She could be quoted as saying:
"There’s no way it wouldn’t be a sexual relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks sexy all the time. She was totally wrong to play me.”
