Joseph Duggar's prison status was revealed after his arrest, as Kendra Duggar's release and Florida allegations brought new details to the case.
Joseph Duggar is now sitting in a jail cell in Arkansas while serious allegations against him continue to surface. The 31-year-old was arrested last week after a minor accused him of sexual abuse during a family trip years ago. His wife, Kendra Duggar, was also taken into custody but was released shortly after posting bond. As the legal case moves forward, new details about Joseph’s time inside jail and reactions from his family are starting to come out, giving a clearer picture of what is happening right now.
Joseph Duggar is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Facility in Arkansas as he waits to be sent to Florida, where the case will move ahead. According to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, he has already agreed to be extradited. Not long after Kendra Duggar was released from custody, Joseph spoke to her on a call from jail. The call details were later shared by People. During that conversation, he described his current living conditions inside the facility. He further shared during the call by stating:
“I’ve been spending a lot of time reading, uh, reading the Bible, they got me a Bible in here,”
He also revealed that he is being kept alone for most of the day. Joseph described staying inside a small space for about 23 hours daily and admitted that while he can rest, but sleeping through the night has been difficult. Kendra Duggar, 27, had been arrested on charges related to child endangerment and false imprisonment. However, she was released on bond about 90 minutes after being booked.
Joseph Duggar is also facing similar charges, along with the main allegations tied to the Florida case. The arrest itself happened in Tontitown, Arkansas, but the accusations trace back to a family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida. Authorities in Florida issued a warrant, which then led to his arrest in Arkansas.
As more information came out, members of the Duggar family began speaking publicly. Joseph Duggar’s sister, Joy-Anna Duggar, shared her reaction through social media, expressing deep pain over the situation. She wrote:
“What has come out about my brother is heartbreaking and deeply disturbing. My heart is with the victim, and I am grieved by the pain and harm caused.”
She also shared that she is stepping away from social media for some time to be with her family and process everything. At the same time, Joseph’s brother, Jason Duggar, along with his wife, Maddie Grace Duggar, released a strong statement. They described feeling shocked and deeply upset after learning about the accusations and made it clear their concern is with the victim.
The case itself is built on an affidavit first reported by the Daily Mail. In the document, the accuser, now 14 years old, explained that the incidents happened when she was nine during a vacation in 2020. She told investigators that Joseph Duggar’s behaviour changed over time during that trip, moving from close contact to actions that made her feel uncomfortable and confused.
According to the affidavit, the situation continued more than once before eventually stopping. The document also stated that Joseph later admitted during a recorded call with authorities that he touched the minor over her clothing and acknowledged his intentions were not right. Law enforcement in Florida reviewed the details and issued an arrest warrant. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office then worked with Arkansas authorities, which led to Joseph Duggar being taken into custody. Right now, Joseph remains in Arkansas, waiting for the legal process to move him to Florida, where the case will continue in court.
