The 23-year-old Aditya Sharma was among the three Indian sailors who were reported missing from the ship after the US strike on MT Settebello off Oman.
A young deck cadet, Aditya Sharma from Himachal Pradesh, was killed in an attack by US military forces on the commercial oil tanker MT Settebello in the Gulf of Oman. He was one of the sailors who were initially reported missing after the attack. However, later it was confirmed that Aditya Sharma, along with engine fitter Shivanand Churasiya and chief engineer Patnala Suresh, were found dead.
After the reports claimed that three Indians sailors went missing, Aditya Sharma's father took to his X account and appealed to the Indian Government to help find him. He shared that the shipping company messaged him. He added that his son had reported exploitation by a senior at the ship and wanted to quit it in April 2026. His post on X can be read as:
"I am father of one of the three crew missing. Aditya Sharma is my son. Please help to locate and find him. Below shipping company message to me. My son has reported exploitation by senior at ship and want to quit this ship in April. We have all conservation in records."
This post was shared as the family hoped that Aditya might have escaped into the water. They were also praying that he was among the 21 crew members who were rescued by the Omani Navy. But God had other plans, and all three missing sailors' deaths were confirmed on June 11, 2026. The family in Himachal Pradesh urged the MEA to hasten the repatriation of Aditya's mortal remains from Oman for his final rites.
Aditya Sharma was a native of Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, and his family is left in deep pain following the attack on the Palau-flagged vessel MT Settebello near the Strait of Hormuz. It was confirmed that 24 Indian crew members were onboard, of whom 21 were rescued, and three died in the reported US attack. Aditya Sharma was serving as a deck cadet on the vessel.
Talking about his demise, his family broke down in tears. They want an inquiry into the matter. A family member shared that the only demand is to know who allowed the captain to take the ship forward. They demanded that Anurag Thakur and the Himachal Pradesh government conduct an inquiry into the matter and find out those responsible, as they had lost a big piece of their heart.
Aditya Sharma's uncle revealed that his brother had called him and told him that Aditya was missing, and they tried coordinating with the company the whole night, and they also cooperated with them. But they didn't share anything. Aditya's uncle stated that he was on probation and had been working for six months. They found out about his death at 1:30-2 a.m in the night. His uncle said:
"Yesterday, my brother called and told he (Aditya) was missing. I came to Jalandhar. We tried coordinating with the company the whole night, and they cooperated as well. However, they were not revealing anything. He was on probation and was working for six months. Around 1:30-2 am, we got the news. We wish to receive his last remains soon. We demand that our MP, Himachal Pradesh and the External Affairs Ministry bring back his mortal remains. We also seek information about whether there was an attempt to rescue him or not."
The Ministry of External Affairs revealed that they condemn the attack on the commercial vessel Settebello off the coast of Oman. They revealed in a post on X that 21 Indians. have been rescued. The post can be read as:
