Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleHouse of the Dragons fans have been waiting for two years to get some answers after the cliffhangers from Season 2. And now, they can finally take a breather, as the makers have released Season 3 on June 21, 2026 (ET). However, it's safe to say that viewers won't be calm for long as Season 3's very first episode is set to bring some major deaths, including the passing of 'Jacaerys (Jace) Velaryon'. In a candid conversation, the actor Harry Collett has now reacted to his exit from the show and called it a grim but "perfect" send-off after playing the role for five years.
In a candid conversation with Esquire, Harry Collett has reflected on the end of his run with House of the Dragons. The actor had been part of the show for two whole seasons. During the interaction, the interviewer asked Harry how he felt about the ending of his role. The actor revealed that he had known that this was going to happen since Season 1, and to him, it was the perfect end for 'Jace'. He was quoted as saying:
"There’s no way Jace couldn't have died. He had to for the future of the realm. It changes Rhaenyra's mindset, so it's all a great sacrifice. Some people say to me, 'I'm so sorry they killed you off', and I'm like, 'I haven't been fired! I knew this was going to happen in Season 1'. It’s been an absolute joy and I've met friends for life on here. I feel like there's no better way to go out than season 3, episode 1. For me, that was the perfect death."
In the same conversation, Harry revealed that while 'Jace's' death was brutal, there was a reason why the director of House of the Dragons, Loni, wanted it done in that manner with arrows specifically. The actor revealed that viewers often forgot that 'Jace' was only 16 years old, and at the end, his vulnerability is highlighted as he dies a slow death. He stated:
"The first arrow is in his back, and we wanted him to feel confused and, because of the adrenaline, not a lot of pain. Then, he obviously turns around and sees the archers, and then the second one goes in. Ultimately, what he felt was, 'I don't want to die, I just want my mum'. He felt very young and vulnerable in that moment and regretted his decision to go. People forget he's 16. He's struggling to breathe at that point, and then that last one just finishes him off."
In the same conversation, Harry admitted that while the shooting was fun, it was equally as hard. He revealed that the emotions felt extremely real. However, playing the death scene since he had never experienced anything like that was extremely hard. He stated:
"Playing dead is probably one of the hardest types of acting you can do. In this show, there are so many emotions that we play, that are emotions we have felt in real life. But death is a feeling that I've never experienced, and it's hard to play dead because it's so unnatural to the human body. While all this stuff is going on in the battle, you've got to make sure that your emotions are coming through amongst all the chaos."
When asked whether he had seen the episode, Harry revealed he had seen it not once but thrice already. He further reflected on how it felt to see himself die onscreen and revealed that it was quite funny because, to him and his friends, it looked unnatural. However, he admitted that his mom was distraught, despite knowing that it was coming. He concluded by sharing how it's one of those moments where there's no music and "you can hear the arrows going into his flesh, which is so tragic."
