H Vinoth On 'Jana Nayagan', Might Not Be CM Vijay's Final Film, Director Says, 'No One Can Say.....'

Jana Nayagan, the final film of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay, is finally arriving on the big screen on July 23, 2026. The upcoming action-drama had a long battle with the CBFC since January 2026, and fans of the superstar are now excited to celebrate his screen presence for one last time in the theatres.

While it has been reported that Jana Nayagan will be Vijay’s last film before he enters politics, a statement by the movie’s director, H Vinoth, has now hinted at other possibilities. Keep reading to know more!

H Vinoth shares more details about Jana Nayagan while hinting at something else

Jana Nayagan is Vijay’s next big release two years after The Greatest of All Time. It is directed by H Vinoth, who is well-known for his collaborations with Ajith Kumar in Nerkonda Paarvai, Valimai, and Thunivu. He has also directed two more films, Sathuranga Vetta, released in 2014, followed by the 2017 action-thriller, Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru.

Although Jana Nayagan has been confirmed by various sources as the final film of Vijay, H Vinoth shared something else about the same while speaking in an interview. He said:

“Whether this is really his last film, no one can say for sure. But you could say this is the CM Vijay sir’s first film.”

The statement has led to an increase in speculation about Vijay’s possible return to films, even though he is currently the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. For the unversed, the mid-credits of The Greatest of All Time announced a sequel titled GOAT vs OG. However, director Venkat Prabhu claimed in 2025 that an update would be shared only after 2026, when Vijay will enter politics.

Meanwhile, H Vinoth explained the content of Jana Nayagan in his new interview, stating that there is serious stuff for around half an hour and people can find a lot of things during that hour if they watch it with proper attention. He further stated:

“This movie isn’t just some commercial flick. It’s a really important political film. It’s not just made to praise on TV or to glorify Vijay sir. It talks about very sensitive politics. Even if people have seen or already know about this politics, I think watching this will spark a lot of discussion. So, the success of this movie is our success too.”

Jana Nayagan had a long battle with the CBFC since the beginning of 2026

Jana Nayagan was supposed to be released on January 9, 2026. However, the CBFC withheld certification citing the movie’s political tone, as it coincided with Vijay contesting the Tamil Nadu elections. The makers attempted to release the film on multiple occasions, but clearance remained pending. During this period, the entire movie was leaked online.

However, after months of uncertainty, the movie was cleared with an A certificate on July 9, 2026. The CBFC also asked the makers for multiple cuts and modifications. The audio and visual references to a political party were removed alongside other objectionable scenes such as the Indian national flag falling to the ground, visuals depicting a child burning, and more.

Apart from Vijay, Jana Nayagan also features Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and many others playing important roles.
