In a recent interview, Govinda spoke about his affair with Neelam Kothari and why was he attracted to her.
Govinda has been in the news lately for tension in his marriage to Sunita Ahuja. The actor’s wife has levelled serious allegations against him about his extramarital affairs. The actor was linked to many women during the peak of his career. One of the names that often crops up while talking about Govinda’s affair is actress, Neelam Kothari.
In the 1990s, Govinda and Neelam Kothari were a hit pair; their fans loved seeing their on-screen chemistry. However, it was Govinda who was smitten by Neelam and wished to marry her. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Govinda admitted his love for Neelam and shared:
“Dekhiye hum sab jitne youngsters, jo gaon type ka hote hain, unn sabhi ke liye goriyan bahut achi lagti hain. Yeh jo opposite attraction hai na, yeh hua karta hai. She was different and such a good girl. Aise lagta tha jaise doll hai.”
In the same interaction, Govinda revealed that he loved watching Neelam on-screen but never thought he would get a chance to work with her. When Neelam became his co-star, he couldn’t believe it. However, every one of their films became a superhit.
Speaking about his affair with Neelam, Govinda shared that during their time, affairs were different and were more about admiration. Speaking about the same, he shared:
“Uss time pe… Abhi yeh jaise affairs hote hain, vaise toh hote nahi the. Hum bawaal machate the… Ho gaya, lag raha hai chal raha hai. Pehle vala romance hota tha, voh dekhne maatr ka tha. Kitna acha kaam kar paye na hum log. Har film dekhiye… gaane superhit, filmein hit.”
Govinda first met Neelam during the shooting of his debut film, Ilzaam, in 1986. Their on-screen chemistry was unmatched, and fans loved seeing them together. Govinda was mesmerised by Neelam’s beauty, and the duo formed a great off-screen bond, too. Govinda was dating Sunita back then, and he would often compare her to Neelam and even try to mould her into the actress.
His constant comparisons to Neelam irked his then-girlfriend, Sunita, so that she would get into arguments with the actor. During one of those arguments, Govinda decided to part ways with Sunita and broke his engagement. Govinda was quite vocal about his feelings for Neelam and how he always wished to marry her. He revealed that he considered her the ideal woman in his life and that he had already begun to visualise her as his wife.
